mszub
Well, I had 1500 grafts done in mid October. It was to rebuild my hairline, I otherwise still have a lot of hair. So far I like the results, in fact some of the transplanted hair is well over 2 inches and the hairline looks complete, no gaps. However, I do notice any where from 20-40ish hairs shed every day. I figure that the actual number is at least twice this given that you can't possible see all the hair you shed. But since it is natural to lose anywhere from 100ish to 150ish hairs daily (obviously they regrow) I'm not worried for the most part because I still have a lot of hair, but do I like it??? no. Anyway, as of late, I'd say mostly this month, I'm noticing more and more transplanted hairs being shed (either naturally or when I apply rogaine, comb, shampoo, massage the scalp gently, etc..). I'd say maybe 1 or 2 a day or so. I can tell they are transplanted because they have a very fat white or yellowish bulb and the transplanted hair is generally thicker and more glossy then my surrounding native hairs. To be honest, they almost resemble pubic hairs and they have some funky twists and curves. Also, when I lose a bulb with two glossy hairs (the worst!!), its pretty obvious its transplanted. So yea, these transplanted hairs are quite long (so they have grown for a few months at least) and its been 7 months since they were implanted, I can only assume they are still there ready to regrow, but it is a little demoralizing that they would fall out given that I am definatly not plucking them out. Its just daily hair handling that should be ok for transplanted hair at this stage. I'm not sure if this is normal so I'm asking all you guys, espeicaly if you have any experience with this matter. I got about a week of Propecia left, so when I get a Rx refill i'm gonna ask my doc because i am a little concerned, but i think this board is a good resource to hit up in the mean time. Thanks, -Matt

Senior Member DDD03 Posted June 5, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted June 5, 2009 Intersting. After 7 months your grafts should be absolutely secure. Keep your cool and I'm sure your HT Doc should be able to clear things up for you My Hair Loss WebLog

Regular Member stilldeciding Posted June 6, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted June 6, 2009 To be honest, they almost resemble pubic hairs and they have some funky twists and curves. Also, when I lose a bulb with two glossy hairs (the worst!!), its pretty obvious its transplanted. See, this worries me, freaks me out. I think the consesus on this is that it's caused by graft damage, but I have yet to see any real discussion on it, and I really want to see what others think and how this can be minimized. I for one do NOT want pubic hairs on my head, and a lot of results I see do resemble them! I am going in for my 2nd HT this month. Had a small fue a few years back and had the same issues with pubic-esque results...so I had them lasered off. Been assured that my doc doesn't have these problems with FUE...but I'd be lying to say I wasn't still a bit concerned.
Senior Member imissthebarber Posted June 7, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted June 7, 2009 I believe that the hairs can look kinky at this stage but that the softening process should mean that by 12-18 months they will resemble non-transplanted hair and will have lost the "funky look".
