My Visit With Dr. Parsa Mohebi

I had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Parsa Mohebi recently and was very impressed. Dr. Mohebi is a recommended surgeon, an accolade given to only the most accomplished of surgeons that are carefully selected for their skill, consistently excellent patient results, and great patient rapport. He is truly an artist when it comes to hair restoration. His staff is also very accomplished and they take great pride in their work.

Dr. Mohebi did his residency in General Surgery and a research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. His research focused on wound healing, growth factors, and hair growth. Afterwards, Dr. Mohebi did a hair restoration surgery fellowship at New Hair Institute, where he was trained and mentored by world-famous hair transplant surgeon Dr. William Rassman. Dr. Mohebi has been a hair transplant surgeon for about 15 years and has performed thousands of hair transplant procedures during his illustrious career. When I had the chance to visit and observe Dr. Mohebi, I jumped at the opportunity. His academic and clinical accomplishments are stellar.

Dr. Mohebi opened his own practice, Parsa Mohebi Hair Restoration, in 2008. He has offices in Encino, Beverly Hills, and San Francisco.

I was warmly greeted by Dr. Mohebi and his staff and observed an approximately 4,000 graft FUE surgery case over two days. Throughout the surgery, Dr. Mohebi and his team made sure that the patient was as comfortable as possible and was very thorough and meticulous in his approach to the surgery.

Dr. Mohebi creates the recipient site himself beforehand to minimize the time that grafts spend outside the patient’s body. This is done to maximize graft survival, and everything is done by hand for perfection. He extracts grafts via a 0.8mm – 0.9mm punch using the Trivellini system. This system is the only device on the market that can execute rotation, oscillation, and vibration individually or in combination. Grafts are placed in chilled Lactated Ringers solution, that helps maintain grafts and has been shown to enhance graft survival.

Dr. Mohebi’s techs have an average of 10 years of experience. Under Dr. Mohebi's supervision, the techs count and sort the grafts using Meiji stereotactic microscopes. Dr. Mohebi makes incisions first and then extracts grafts with minimal transection. That allows the technicians to place extracted grafts as soon as they are harvested. While people appreciate the skillset, artistry, and knowledge of hair transplant surgeons; I firmly believe it is VERY important to have great technicians as well. Dr. Mohebi and his team try to perform as much simultaneous extraction and placement as possible to minimize the time hair grafts spend outside the body. This has been shown to increase the quality and survivability of FUE grafts. Dr. Mohebi introduced this concept to the hair restoration field.

Dr. Mohebi’s commitment to advancing the hair restoration field is unparalleled. He invented the Mohebi Implanter. His implanter minimizes the physical trauma to follicles and improves the efficiency of the graft implantation process by allowing the technicians to load and implant the grafts without the use of forceps.

In addition, Dr. Mohebi invented the Laxometer for FUT procedures. The Laxometer helps hair transplant surgeons measure the mobility of the scalp and determine an optimum size strip that can be removed to minimize donor complications. Donor complications can include stretching of the scar, hair loss around the wounds and necrosis in its most severe forms.

I am thankful to Dr. Mohebi and his staff for allowing me to visit their clinic. Without a doubt, I would recommend Dr. Mohebi. He performs ultra-refined follicular unit transplantation and is extremely dedicated to his patients. He truly is an artist, and it is no wonder why he is so well regarded in the field and has so many happy patients. Dr. Mohebi says that it makes his day making his patients happy, more youthful, and feeling more confident in themselves.

Here are some photos from my visit and photos that Dr. Mohebi and his staff kindly provided me to share.
