Induction of hair growth in hair follicle cells and organ cultures upon treatment with 30 kHz frequency inaudible sound via cell proliferation and antiapoptotic effects (spandidos-publications.com)   <------ LINK

Saw this on reddit.  Here's the poster's TL;DR:

Some interesting bits:

  • 30khz ultrasound exposure for 4 hours a day grew hair significantly faster than control, and even faster than minoxidil (but not significantly faster than minoxidil)

  • Expression of balding-related genes that normally occur as a result of DHT was significantly reduced in the ultrasound treated samples (potentially stopping the hair-loss effects of DHT without needing to remove DHT!)

  • This study is the first to report this phenomenon (published less than 1 month ago.)

  • Measurements of gene expression were taken 2 days after treatment and the results were still significant

One downside:

  • Researchers used 144 dB amplitude ultrasound, which is above the safe exposure limit of 110 dB for continuous ultrasonic exposure, meaning it might be difficult to turn this into a safe, practical treatment.

However, we have no idea if this level of loudness is necessary to produce the results in the study. 144 dB was the only loudness tested: it might work just as well, or even better, at lower amplitudes. Additionally, we have no idea if 30khz is the optimal frequency, and we have no idea if 4 hours per day is the optimal "dosage" of ultrasonic sound. More research of this phenomenon is necessary to answer these questions.

Yeah, 4 hours a day vs 15 mins application of Minoxidil and barely any extra benefit, i think the dedication would kill adherence.

Hell, most give Minoxidil up because they think they don't see results.
