Am I a good candidate for a HT?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been receding since my early 20's but did not do anything about it due to fear of sides and had basically been shaving since late 20's. Currently am 33 and decided to hop on meds to see if I respond well as I recently found some promising pics of how good HTs and meds can be (looking at work by Dr Ozlem Bicer). Thoughts were that if I would hop on meds+ and responded well then consider a HT to fill in and reconstruct the hairline. I've been on oral fin + min 1mg of each for about 6 weeks with no sides and dermarolling, added biotin tablets and keto shampoo also. Obviously too early to determine if there is any regrowth, but it does seem like my hair is a little bit stronger.

Anyway, my questions are: do you think I look like a good candidate for a HT? And how many grafts would you estimate?

Thanks for reading.

You will need to stay on Fin for at least 6 - 12 months before you can expect to have full effect. And then obviously stay on it going forward.
But yes with high sides and from what I can see you do seem like a good candidate if you have a realistic goal In terms of what can be achieved.

We need better pics of your donor area though please. Maybe you could think in terms of a couple of transplants to get adequate coverage. Could be around 6k of grafts if you have a good donor and can maybe add some beard grafts If needed.

Your looking at Bicer who is very good, however I do think Eugenix is doing the best work for the higher Norwoods. Definitely worth considering.

Thanks John! So probably best to wait 12 months before deciding then. I've added a donor area pic and yes. I have a very thick beard area, is it common that they need to use the beard? Can you get many hairs from there?

Yes it’s good to give it a year, you can be planning and consulting decent clinics in the meantime. A lot of the more decent places will have a waiting list of maybe 6 months or so.
Please show us a pic of your beard, if it’s a good source then you could get a couple of thousand grafts. For a lot of us high Norwoods it does seem to be the case we often have a very good/thick beard.
If your going with FUE and not FUT then someone like Bicer or Eugenix will definitely tap in to a good beard to supplement the scalp hair.
To maximise our donor source then you could start out with FUT, Hattingen do excellent large FUT procedures. But if your aiming for FUE then yes Beard grafts can be necessary. It’s becoming much more common for them to be used.
Especially with Eugenix ! Who are masters 👌

Looking at your donor pic I can see a possible future 7 pattern (dipping crown) and maybe retrograde alopecia.. can you show us a more of the neck ? Another couple of clinics you could consider would be Dr Bisanga (BHR), HDC @Doron Harati+ Vertex @DrTBarghouthi. It’s good you have started Fin, you still have a lot of hair to retain. Those high sides in particular 👍🏽
