Headband Or Ice After HT?

Is it necessary to wear a head band for a few days after a HT to reduce swelling, or is using an ice pack on the forehead a better option?

I didnt use any head band, they said ice but i used it like 1 time a day only. Well i looked like a baloon after 1 day but all swelling disapered after 2 days and i looked ok after that. The swelling doesnt hurt but you look like shit, was funny thought to look like a baloon.

I wasn't told to do either of those things.  I kept all contact away from the surgical site.  Each time I've had work done the swelling and redness lasts weeks.

The headband must be used to prevent edema in your forehead and around your eyes as it applies pressure onto your forehead. Applying icepacks on the forehead area help relieve any swelling as well...

I dont use headbands. My swelling prevention instructions are:

1. Ice

2. Elevation (includes sleeping in a somehow reclined position for 5 days.

3. Avoidance of forward head tilting (phone, laptop use unless reclined)

4. Reducing dose of steroids orally for the first 5 days.

5. Injected steroids mixed in the tumescent fluid. 
 

Swelling usually peaks day 3/4. So it is important to stick to the above for the first 5 days really.

The headband must be worn since it exerts pressure on your forehead and causes edoema there and around your eyes. Ice packs placed on the forehead area might also help reduce any swelling.
