Assault
I recently cut my hair and began to notice when I get my hair wet a large amount of my scalp is very noticeable, this isn't in one particular area, but all over my head. When my hair is dry is isn't noticeable thankfully but I cannot put styling gel in my hair anymore or my scalp shows. Lately I have noticed that its not just the hair on my head that is thinning, but all the hair on my body. My arm hair, legs hair, pubic hair, armpit hair, and I am starting to notice a difference in my eye brows and facial hair. I am 19 years old and I have no idea what is going on, I would go to a doctor but my insurance refuses to cover me, luckily I will be moving back to Canada soon, so I can probably get it checked out there. If anyone has experienced something similar please respond to this.
Senior Member PLEASE GROW PLEASE Posted May 29, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted May 29, 2009 Have you had your thyroid checked?
Senior Member Uk_lad Posted May 30, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted May 30, 2009 I have thyroid myself. some signs that something is up are: tiredness, sudden weight gain, hair loss, cold hands or feet. a simple blood test will tell you if you have a problem or not! and the symptons will depend on whether its overactive or underactive! Senior Member El Nino Posted May 30, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted May 30, 2009 It could be Alopecia Universalis. My Hair Loss Website - Two HTs with Dr. Rahal and SMP at HIS Hair.
Bill - Seemiller
Assault, Even though you're not covered by medical insurance at this time, I'd advise you to consult with a dermatologist and/or trichologist as soon as possible. In extreme cases, a loss of scalp and body hair could be an extreme form of alopecia arreata called alopecia universalis/totalis, resulting in total hair loss. Certain medications can also cause this (or other treatments such as radiation or chemotherapy). At the very least, consulting with a hair loss specialist can help discover the underlying cause, offer any treatments if available, and help you deal with the condition. Please keep us posted as we'd like to do all we can to support you. Best wishes, Bill
Senior Member Predator Posted June 14, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted June 14, 2009 Follow the advice and get yourself checked out. Don't sink into worry though, I may be a lot older than you but I have had similar symptoms with the loss of body hair and I get a full medical every 6 months. In some of my profile pics you might see a thin 3 Musketeers moustache, which used to be a Burt Reynolds, the last time I tried, the body goes up and down and a lot can be stress related. So find out. Regards My Hair Loss Website - Hair Transplant with Dr. Rahal
