MrNuit
Alright, Im a male and had a hairperm 2+ months ago. I am really liking the curly perm, but i have noticed that hair falls out every time after i wash it with cold water in the morning. I take good care of my hair. I have not noticed any bald patches or anything which recedes, there is also no balding in both sides of my family .... But i have of course been losing hair every day. Is there any cause for worry, or is this normal? Since its kind of making me worried ...
DrTBarghouthi
Hi, In some cases hair treatments and styling products can cause some chemical injury and disturb the cycling of the hair follicle. This means that it could push a follicle in it’s growth part of the cycle (Anagen) to go into a resting stage (telogen) early and start to shed. This is called Acute Telogen Effluvium. Ofcourse it is normal cycling to have upto 100 hairs falling in any given day. If the number is higher, then Telogen effluvium is definitely a possibility and it usually wears out on it’s own and hair restores it’s normal cycling. Please consult a dermatologist or a hair specialist for a proper assessment and advice. Dr. Taleb Barghouthi approved and recommended on the Hair Transplant Network. I have never noticed more than like 10 hairs falling out at once after a wash. I didn't know that this was normal, it's maybe more noticable because i have curls now? Senior Member pkipling Posted April 17, 2019 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2019 As mentioned above, it's completely normal to shed about 100 hairs a day, so it's very likely that this is what it is. As for why you never noticed it before, it's possible that when your hair was straight, the hairs that would shed would fall from your scalp easier as you moved throughout your day. Now with the curls, they may be "held in place" better and not fall completely until you wash your hair. This happens when guys use certain hair products as well. The product keeps the shedding hairs in place, and it's not until they wash it that they seem them in their hands. And the longer you go without washing in instances like this, the more hairs you'll have in your hands when you do get around to washing it, with them having accumulated over a couple of days. If this happens, don't panic. 1 I am a patient advocate for Dr. Parsa Mohebi in Los Angeles, CA. My views/opinions are my own and don't necessarily reflect the opinions of Dr. Mohebi and his staff. Dr Blake Bloxham
MrNuit, Are you combing or manipulating the hair vigorously while it is still wet? Hair strands break a little easier when they are wet. You will notice more hair on the comb if you run it through wet hair compared to dry hair. This is not hairs "falling out" or shedding, but the hair shafts themselves snapping off or breaking mid-shaft. Dr. Blake Bloxham is recommended by the Hair Transplant Network.
