Surgery with Dr. Konior in a week

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm having my surgery in a week with Dr. Konior. I'm pretty excited but expectedly nervous as well. After much discussion with Dr. Konior, I have made the decision to proceed without using propecia at all.

Dr. Konior told me only 20-30% of his clients use finasteride and that you can get great results without using it. He said many of the people that do use finasteride, still require a surgery in the future.

I will use any other products that Dr. Konior recommends.

I just found it interesting that one of the top doctors in the industry who sees hundreds of patients a year, says it's not necessary to take propecia and that only about 1/3 of his patients use it.

First of all you have chosen an excellent surgeon so you are in good hands.

Your procedure will be FUT or FUE?

I have mixed feelings about surgery without Fin, as I've been on and off of the drug the past seven years.

A Konior procedure plus Fin will give you GQ/male model type of "wow" hair result, especially if you can stay on Fin long term. There are various side effects so it's not always possible though.

Not being on it you will have to go a bit denser than the 50 grafts/cm2 that Dr. K likes to normally transplant if you have fine caliber hair, if you want a dense result (if you have thick dark hair than just let Dr. K do his magic).

Otherwise when you lose your native hair there will be nothing to support the "illusion of density" that people often talk about with HT's. And you will eventually get hair greed for further procedures if the density is not enough.

Also there is the factor of how are you going to manage and maintain your hairloss in the coming years without preventative meds. You still seem pretty young (25-26 ?) and there are no pics to make an evaluation, but those two factors (1) going for higher density if you have fine hair and (2) future management of your hair loss are two things you should take into consideration going into a procedure off of Finasteride.

anyway good luck

go dense or go home

Thanks for the reply. I am doing FUT per Dr. Koniors recommendation since it's my first transplant and how my hair is. I have average hair. Not thin or thick.

I told Dr Konior I would rather have a second or third surgery in the future rather than use finasteride. The fact I'd have to take the drug for life to maintain results, is not something I'm willing to do. If you aren't willing to take the drug for life, why take it at all? As soon as people get off of fin they lose whatever the fin was maintaining.

I am doing a high density hairline restoration. I'm a Norwood II right now.

You are one lucky dude. He is one of--if not--the best FUT doctors in the world IMHO. The combination of his artistic skill, perfectionism and midwestern congeniality is par excellence. It is normal to be nervous, but you are about to be very pleasantly surprised, Would be nice to know how long you had to wait and what the goals of the procedure are? Can you post some before pics? What products are being suggested? And can you suggest to the good Doctor that he do the nation a service by doing a repair procedure on our Prez?

PS Can you get Dr. K to assure he will still be practicing for your 2nd and possibly 3rd procedure? He can always fish on the weekends.

The only reason I'm nervous is because I'm not taking finasteride so I feel like my results could be significantly compromised.

Have you guys seen people who have gotten great results without using finasteride?

I will post all before and post op pics on the day of surgery. I waited a year for this appointment. Also, I will use whatever else Dr. K recommends.

Have you ever tried it before and do you have any pics you can post?

If you were in your 30's or 40's I wouldn't be so worried either, but hairloss is a lifetime progressive condition.

I don't think the results will be compromised especially since you're going with Konior, but you may have to plan it a bit differently than the average patient on meds would.

Including transplanting a bit denser in the first 1cm Zone 1 of your hairline if work is to be done there. Unless you're just doing the temple corners or doing an overall density boost into your existing hairline.

Of all of the homeruns I can remember from Dr. Konior all have been on Propecia including Spanker's results, Sam Spade, 1978matt (lower dose 2x week ?) etc.

Though there may be exceptions.

Btw I'm a three-time patient 2x FUT and most recently FUE.

Everything Dr. K has transplanted has remained permanent on Fin or not.

go dense or go home

.

You are actually advocating more density? You, the one who warned that dense packing is dangerous??

Hi Bugatti,

Konior seems to be a fine specialist from what I have seen. You will have no issues with him at all. Just be careful getting advice from others who say one thing one day and something different another. You are in good hands with Konior and your hair will turn out to be great I am confident about that. Good luck!

We're talking about 60 grafts/cm2 here not some 100 dillusional number you are chasing.

Get a HT, post some pics and I already warned you about not hijacking multiple threads where real people are seeking help here.

You're not in a position to help anyone but yourself so start your own thread with pics.

You hijacked this thread simply to disagree with me which is pretty sick and does not help the OP in the least.
