This interesting case of 29 year old male with scarring hair loss from a MRSA infection several years ago presented to our clinic 6 months ago. His hair loss has been stable for the past 2 years. Our plan was to do a test case of 100 grafts in order to test the blood supply of the scarred area. We performed the test case of 104 FUE grafts, harvested from the central occipital area, and he returned for follow up, with satisfactory results of the test scar. Today he came in for a 2500 FUE graft case to fill in the scarred area.

The point of this thread is that last week at the Las Vegas ISHRS meeting I was challenged that there is no study that shows graft survival of FUE grafts, and so as a group the ISHRS should not support FUE. Our experience is that FUE grafts have a graft survival similar to FUT grafts, and with the use on Implanter Pens, can actually have a better survival rate than forceps placed FUT grafts.

In this case I harvested and placed 104 FUE grafts, and at the six month mark 99 of the 104 grafts were counted, for a graft survival rate of 95%. And this is in scar tissue. I do not present this case as definitive for all FUE cases, and certainly the quality of the procedure can vary widely with FUE providers. But at a minimum I want to call in to question the accepted "fact" that FUT grafts have a better survival rate than FUE grafts.

Had to be an American doc who was arguing with you as many of them are still stubborn refusing to accept the industry is moving past their outdated procedure. Just a few are current like yourself dr Vories... I know fut still has it's place for certain scenarios, ...when you need to max donor hairs for example but outside those very few conditions fue is becoming the preferred choice and seems a lot of those docs can't/won't accept that. The idea that the results aren't on par shouldn't even be an argument anymore.
