Senior Member JustJax Posted June 12, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted June 12, 2016 For the regular gym goers, when did you stop exercising pre surgery and when did you start back? I currently go to the gym 5-6 days a week and I'm loathed to stop for longer than I need to as I'm one of those people who's all or nothing and if I stop going to the gym, then I tend to eat badly too and its then its a massive struggle to get back into eat well and starting a fitness routine again. From what I'm read, the general advice seems to be suggest waiting approx a month post surgery. I'm booked in with ASMED/Dr Erdogan for my surgery and their advice is 3-4 weeks. Would 3 week mark be pushing it? I do wonder what the deciding factor is between 3 or 4 weeks? Also I'm a little unclear on pre-surgery. There isn't any reference to pre-op exercise in my ASMED notes but about 2 years ago, I had a consult with Ziering Medical in London and the other day I found the booklet they gave me you and in their pre-op instructions it says to avoid "strenuous exercise" 7 days before surgery. Has anyone else had similar pre-op advice from their surgeon or clinic?
Senior Member JustJax Posted June 12, 2016 Author Senior Member Share Posted June 12, 2016 I presume you are having FUE. Pre op there is no real restriction on working out. I wouldn't worry or stress out too much about that at all. Post op you can start to build up gradually after 2 weeks in my opinion ( but obviously see how you feel) You will know how far you can push it. You will not loose any ground over 2 weeks and important to rest and respect the process /investment. Think long term, not short term. Regards Spex Hi Spex, yes I'm having FUE. Thanks for the advice. I've Googled and found some more pre-op advice from other clinics but none mention stopping exercise before hand. I will of course double check with ASMED but thinking it through, my last opportunity to go to the gym (at least at home) will be Sat 8th and my surgery is on the 11th so it will have been 3 days without exercise at that point anyway. Post surgery, I was thinking in lines with what you suggested, ie go back to the gym after 2 weeks but to limit it to just walking on the treadmill just to get me back in the gym and to feel like I'm doing something. Obviously I don't want to jeopardise my surgery. As you say, think long term.
Senior Member spyk777 Posted June 12, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted June 12, 2016 How will weight lifting affect FUE patients. Unlike FUT where you have to worry of scar dehiscence. What is the concern for FUE after all wounds have healed. any inputs appreciated.
Senior Member Dolph1969 Posted June 12, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted June 12, 2016 If the grafts are secure in 7 -10 days, I cant see why training cant resume. Would be interested to hear the experts on this..
Senior Member Paulygon Posted June 13, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted June 13, 2016 I think starting at 3 weeks is okay. Do what you feel your body can handle. Start slow, and progress to your old routine over 3-4 weeks.
