Hello everybody,

I thought instead of taking all the info like a parasite, I would give back today. I am week post-op FUE seem to be healing ok.

I have ceased propecia after few years - as I believed i was experiencing side effects but only realised it when I actually stopped taking it. Am I going to say it killed my joie de vivre, its toxic and poison and over-react. No i wouldnt say that...but it made me cloudy in the head, slightly anxious somewhat and less hornified.

So i will begin on helphair multivitamins and whey protein concentrate (not isolate as i have been informed the concentrate could be helpful in hairloss and he isolate detrimental). Now im not a huge advocate of vitamins for hair loss and a bit skeptical and as a scientist I expect some clinical trials/systematic reviews but lets see.

If anyone would to share their opinion would be interesting

While vitamins are great and can do wonder for the skin, hair and nails, making them very healthy in appearance, I have seen no evidence that suggests that any vitamins can actually stop the progression of male pattern baldness or regrow hair. Be careful of any advertisements that suggest that hey products can "stimulate hair growth" or "promote healthy hair growth". These phrases are easily confused with stimulating or promoting NEW hair growth or regrowth.

So if you want my opinion, feel free to go ahead and try whatever vitamins you'd like. But I wouldn't substitute them for proven or effective treatments.

Best,

Bill

Thanks for that Bill.

I was under the same impression as you, it's rather strange as my surgeon was rather keen I take these supplements. I will take it anyway but I assume I have non vitamin deficiency and obtain everything from my diet.

This is not the first time I've heard this. It's interesting that apparently some surgeons feel it's important to take some kind of "hair vitamin". But, overall this does not appear to be common even though some surgeons apparently require it or suggest it. Because there is no proof that these vitamins do anything to regrow hair or stop the progression of male pattern baldness, it makes me wonder why they suggest or require it. If you are willing, I suggest asking your doctor to see what they say.

If you do, I encourage you to report back and let us know.

Best wishes,

Bill

I was given the impression that even with propeica that people continue to lose hair. Hair loss is not entirely at a genetic level therefore risk factors play a part. Vitamins can help play a part in affecting the inflammatory process. It sort of makes sense as a scientist I deal with inflammation and it's a multi factorial process drugs can influence inflammation. Let's see

Male pattern baldness, also referred to as genetic hair loss is fully 100% genetic. While it is possible for outside factors to expedite or speed up the process, genetic baldness depends solely on the jea while it is possible for outside factors to expedite or speed up the process, genetic baldness depends solely on the genes. Medication like Propecia doesn't work for everybody, but it can bring genetic or lost to a complete stop for many men.

There are many other types of hair loss that are completely distinct from genetic baldness. Perhaps that is what you are thinking about and that does depend on outside factors. That type of hair loss however, is more rare especially within men. However, thyroid condition, low iron levels, certain medications, Extreme traumatic stress and more can cause a nongenetic type of hair loss.

I could get much more in depth about the different nongenetic types of hair loss if you feel that you are suffering from this kind of bonus however I suspect you are suffering from genetic hair loss. Genetic bonus can be identified by the classic Horshoe pattern of loss on top of the scou genetic baldness can be identified by the classic horse shoe pattern of loss on top of the scalp. It starts as a small bald spot or a receding hair line and gets more advanced with time creating hair loss only on top on the scalp. Genetic baldness follows what's referred to as the Norwood scale for men or the Ludwig scale for women. That said, sometimes men can experience the female pattern while females can experience the male pattern.

I suggest posting pictures of your hair loss if you are uncertain about which type of hair loss you have. And while we can only give you our opinion, sure can truly help. Also, I recommend talking to your surgeon who should have told you if your hair loss was anything other than a Nongenetic pattern.

I hope this helps.

Hi Bill,

many thanks for this reply. Although I am not an expert in hair loss and havent had time to really read about this generally even something which is genetic based can be upregulated or downregulated by chemical signals which may be influenced by hormones/vitamins. Now i came across one article which stated vit D3 serum levels were lower in androgenetic alopecia patients vs helathy/control. Now the journal isnt quite clear in terms of bias or non bias. We should maybe consider Vit D3 supplemetation. I will start to read more about the pathophysiology of this disease we are all afflicted by and see what I come up.....please correct me if im wrong ! just trying to help

many thanks
