Regular Member Sonia Posted November 27, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted November 27, 2008 Just to be clear why is it not a good idea to strip the nape area (under the occipital bone) besides the fact that the surrounding hair may one day miniaturize? Senior Member T.C Posted November 27, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 27, 2008 You can if you FUE but I think it is too low to take a strip for physiological reasons that a doctor can explain better than me.I guess if you have hairloss in the back also it may miniturize later.Maybe a doc can give a further opinion on this!. Senior Member Jotronic Posted November 27, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 27, 2008 It's not a good idea to strip this area because of the increase chance and probability of stretch back. No matter whether it is stripped or addressed via FUE the hair is traditionally not permanent like scalp donor hair and can disappear over time. I've seen it happen as we had a patient a while back that had strip taken from the nape by a chain clinic. Their excuse was to get the "finer hairs for the hairline" as modern FUE clinics claim to do. I'm sure the hairs were indeed finer but I can't say for sure because they fell out long ago, just like the rest of his nape hair which now coincidentally shows the bare strip scar.
