Should I go for ~800 graft FUE?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I would like some advice from local community members.

I am 23 year old and developing a NW6 pattern. But wait a moment before saying that I am too young for a hair transplant... Currently my loss has stabilized due to drugs and minoxidil, I think I even see some minor thickening, but my hairline is absolutely devastated. Should I go for a very conservative FUE of about 800 grafts to slightly fill in my temporal recession points? On the picture below I have marked what approximately I would like to get done. Personally, I would very much like to get a small FUE session, I am sure it would change the framing of my face for good, because my head is large and now recession points are very far from the middle of the hairline, which itself lays quite high on my forehead..

And whom I should go to? I am more inclined on going to Turkey due to low prices, but not sure every HT surgeon would agree to work with my case and small number of grafts.

Thank you

Don't do it...I think you'll regret it. You'll be in a losing effort to chase your hairline and may run out of transplants. I know it absolutely sucks, but I would wait a good while so you can plan properly with the grafts you'll be able to use - my best guess is that you're on your way to a NW6 or NW7.

Just keep your hair short. It looks really good at that length!

Hi inb4,

If your hair loss has stabilized due to drugs and minoxidil, and even see some minor thickening, just wait and see. Never rush things that you might regret later.

Take a sit back attitude over the next months. If really it gets worse, you still have time to go for that HT and there are plenty of good doctors out there, delivering great results.

You are more inclined to go to Turkey for the low prices but you should check out India for their great results and good prices when the time is right.

I had my HT done with Dr. Tejinder Bhatti in Chandigarh India. He is a great surgeon recommended on this forum. Many members out here went to have their procedure done by Dr. Bhatti.

If you later have any questions at all, feel free to ask.

I agree with all the comments here, HOWEVER you are the "NEXT GENERATION" in hair restoration that FUE is designed for. Get in early and get the most out of younger years, thus avoiding the years when hair loss can cause depression, its in our youth when we need our hair the most. why not do 5 sessions of 1000 FUE grafts spread over 10 years, its an option that might suit your needs.

Big thanks to all of you for replies.

ModernHair, I think you are right that I am on my way to NW6, but I don't know how have you decided that my hair looks good this short if you haven't seen my face upfront.. It looks bad, mostly due to the wrecked hairline. I use toppik often, so it gives some density on top, but I obviously can't sprinkle on the hairline lower than it is now. I don't think that my hairline will recede even further back because it is already very far back, further is going to be behind the line of the ears lol. I have attached a side photo below.

I absolutely understand that hairloss is a life long commitment and don't think that one hair transplant, be it even 3-4k graft transplant, would solve this problem once and forever. I have been browsing hairloss forum for 3 years, researching HT for nearly one year and can't recall many who has done a single transplant and forgot about the treatment of hairloss altogether. I am aware that I will probably need more than one transplant in the future and most certainly beard/body hair transplant too because my donor zone is small in relation to the AGA affected area.

HT doctors themselves seem to have different opinion on my topic. So far I have got a no from Dr. Bisanga clinic due to my young age. Judging by what I've read on the forums in the past year, docs in Belgium are not very keen on working with young patients. With all the respect, I suspect the reason is because they just don't want to bother with 23 y/o guys who can barely scrape 5000 euro for a HT and are obviously a higher risk category, when these docs are already booked for the months to come by the army of older dudes. Turkish doctors on the other hand are more inclined to work with patients of my type and age, and I think it is not because they are somehow desperate for clientele, but because they actually care and know that they can help.

darlinglocks regarding Indian docs, thanks for advice, but I doubt I would go to India for a small FUE session because the plane ticket itself would amount to half of the procedure cost.

Excuse me for such a long post, just wanted to lay my thoughts out.

Have to agree. I feel myself that this attitude of "no go HT before you 30" among the communities is exaggerated. When I see a 24 year old NW5 slick bald guy being advised not go do a HT it makes me angry, even. I am not a pro of course, so maybe I am missing something here, but you are given your 20's only once in your life and this is the age when looks matter THE MOST.

But then there surely are guys who have like 1cm temple recession running for a HT at the age of 20, which is another absurd extremity.

Hi inb4,

I agree that you don't have to put an age before you should get an HT, but I do think checking every possibility out there, is a must.

Going for 800 grafts seem to be not a lot and you might need them later, plus as you said you hair loss has stabilised.

If you want to go through with it, do it after checking out several HT surgeons, do some online consultations and compare results and cost!

Thanks. I am thinking about travelling to Belgium to have at least one personal consultation. The plane ticket one way is measly 10 eur (thanks Ryanair), so there is nothing really stopping me from visiting a HT clinic before I decide to pull the trigger.

I think you made a wise decision inb4.

You have nothing to lose indeed and you won't regret the 10 EUR spent.

It is better to be well informed before making any hasty decisions.

Belgium has a concentration of great FUE surgeons.

Good luck.
