Taboo subject?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the research stage and notice that almost no one in this forum discusses the money. Is this against the rules - or doesn't anyone want to divulge just how much it actually cost them per graft, and overall?

It's easy to access pricing for medical procedures, even per graft prices in Thailand (for instance) - but in the US there seems to be an unspoken collusion to not publish prices online or allow free marketing competition. Instead what one gets are very suspicious, slick sales presentations, usually touting special one of a kind specialized techniques - which may or may not be any different than any of the tens of thousands of other procedures done all over the world. Seems like there should be an entire thread/directory - "Prices by State/Country" - or - "How much did you pay?" - but I couldn't find it.

I think the real cost per graft is higher as I do not believe yield are what surgeons claim for both FUT and FUE.

Loads of surgeons brand their own specialised technique of FUE rename it etc when in reality there is negligible if any difference.

I don't think there is any collusion by physicians to keep pricing away from discussion on the forum. HT Is a specialized field and dependent on a lot of variables. There is no MSRP sticker, if you will. Find a Doc, get a quote, sounds pretty straightforward. Comparison shop. Just keep in mind it a one-off procedure as far as you should be concerned. No trade in later. There are docs that offer flat rate pricing.

Here's an example of a flat-rate So Cal doc's pricing.

0-1500 1 zone $2800 Norwood 2-3 Minimal loss, front hairline and corner work only

1501- 2000 1-2 zones $3500 Norwood 3-4 Moderate frontal loss and some crown loss.

2001-2500 up to 6,250 1-2 zones Was $4,800Now $4,300 Norwood 4-5

2501-3500 1-3 zones Was $6,000Now $5,000 Norwood 4-6

3501-4500 1-3 zones $7,000 Norwood 4-6

Just walk right in, no consultation, lie back and get it done. No discussion of those icky topics like yield, scarring, meds, etc....

Of course, you could always opt for personalized service.

I'm serious.  Just look at my face.

The pricing for each clinic/Dr is always on their website, no secret about it, i just think people focus on the transplant itself more than the money side.

I agree. Most docs will be forthright about graft or procedure pricing unless the procedure is specialized involving repair, etc.
