New to FUE - 200 grafts enough for high temporal hair line?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

This is my 1st post, totally new to hair transplant, so please bare with me.

Ever since i can remember, my temporal hair line has been higher (above my ears). Not until recently, i decided to do something about it. I just had an assessment done for FUE. The doctor said 200 grafts each side, for a total of 400 grafts. My question is, do you guys think 200 grafts for each side is enough to make it look like a natural temporal hairline? i will attach a picture. Also, i was quoted $4800 + GST for this procedure (CAD). Thanks for the help!

Steve

imo, I would never spend money or go through surgery just to add hair into the area you have shown.. that is just me. Since your Dr was the one who saw you in person during the consultation, why would you ask people on a forum who a) are not Drs (except a handful that are) b) have not seen you in person to analyse your case.

The rest of my hair is perfectly fine. Yes I do understand that this is a very minor procedure. Its basically a touch up. And yes, unfortunately it is very pricey. But it's been bugging me forever. I've had long hair since the I was a child. When the side of my head is cut short or shaved, it looks abnormal and awkward.

It's hard to tell just how much area we're talking about. I'm guessing maybe 4cm^2 per side? If that's the case then you're talking about 50 grafts per cm^2 which sounds about right.

Is this area exposed with your normal hairstyle?

Thanks for the info. Yes this area is somewhat exposed with my current hairstyle, medium length hair. I did try to cut it shorter one time (#1 razor), and it was fully exposed. The hairline is about 1-1.5 inches above the top of my ear. I use a number 4 razor for the sides. I just want to be able to cut it shorter and have a normal hairline in that particular area. I know it might seem like a minor problem to some people, but it gets frustrating trying to cover it up.

Steve,

Are you talking about the area right above your ear?

The temporal hairline is technically here:

If you're referring to rebuilding the temporal hairline, you'll need more than a few hundred grafts. However, it seems like you're talking about the area directly above your ear. I'd probably call this the parietal hairline (not that the semantics matter much!). I don't think I've ever seen this area restored. However, you probably could get away with a few hundred grafts.

There is good blood supply to that region, so I see no reason why it wouldn't grow well.

Travel if you have to! If you want a good FUE in the USA for a decent price, check out Dr. Vories. He is recommend here. Do not go to a doctor just because he is close, you will regret it, I promise. Choose someone from this website. Dr. Vories would be about $5 Canadian a graft with shitty exchange rate

It's best to define and then calculate the surface area that is being restored, and then to pre-determine the level of restored density to be attained.

That will give you the best estimate of grafts to be used.

Each procedure has set-up costs for the OR which include the staff.
