Senior Member harin Posted April 11, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted April 11, 2015 When a Surgeon harvests FUE grafts from reciepient area, are these hair grafts permanently lost?. Or does some percentage of these grafts grow back?. The underlying epidermis should have same regenerating capacity once the wound is healed and theoretically should be able to form new follicles isn't it?. Or does it depend on the technique of extraction in FUE with regards to what regrowth in the harvested are is going to be? Thank you. Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted April 11, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted April 11, 2015 Harin, They are permanently lost. Regeneration in the donor area requires splitting the follicle and leaving some portion of stem cells behind while transplanting another portion to the front. This leads to regeneration in the donor region and new growth in the transplanted region. Unfortunately, it is all theoretical at this point. We've yet to find a reliable and reproducible method of "donor doubling" - the method you're describing above.
