750 FUE Grafts Used to Correct Bad Results of Scalp Micropigmentation

This patient initially thought that Scalp Micropigmentation would be a good solution for his hairline and temple recession. However, the reality of using pigment to simulate hair turned out to be very different from what he expected. It was very easy for anyone to see the textural difference between his real hair and the pigmented regions on his scalp. And obviously, this did not look natural.

Dr. Umar was able to remove 750 grafts from the patient’s own scalp. These were inserted to restore hair in the temples and hairline area to give him a more youthful looking frame around his face. And of course, this also served to conceal the ink on the patient’s scalp.

FUE on Patients of African Descent

Individuals of African descent face the risk of higher transection rate in an FUE hair transplant. This is due to the shape of their follicles and the curved growth trajectory of their hair. Such factors make it challenging for a straight FUE punch to be used in excising individual grafts without severing the follicles.

Another variable that needs to be considered with these patients in the tissue which surrounds the hair structures. This can be firmer and more difficult to penetrate using conventional punch tools.

UGraft has been designed with features to help remove follicles that are considered to be atypical compared to straight hair structures which grow on the scalp. This includes the curved follicles in patients of African origin as well as body hair. One of these features is the angled cutting axis, as illustrated here.

It is recommended that a test procedure is performed prior to an official surgery. This is done to determine an approximate transection rate as well as other potential difficulties which may arise during a surgery.

This patient was able to undergo a full Follicular Unit Extraction procedure. His results are shown in these photos.

This patient would have benefitted from having his head shaved all the way, in the pictures the contrast between SMP and his hair is quite obvious. Either way, his problem is solved now.
