  1. This teenager lost his right eyebrow and beard hair growth due to the placement of skin grafts that replaced a large congenital nevus mole. Dr.U accepted this young man’s case through his pro bono organization, The Hair Peace Foundation. Due to the fine quality of the patient’s existing eyebrow and beard hair (on the left side), it became absolutely necessary to select the closest graft match. In the end, this would create a natural looking symmetrical appearance on both sides of the face. Dr.U utilized his Dr.UGraft ™ technology to harvest leg and nape hair as viable grafts for the reconstruction of this patient’s eyebrow and beard hair. Through Dr.U's screening tool, the FUE Shave Test, this patient was found to be eligible for the use of nape hair as permanent, long term grafts. This Intuitive FUE system is optimally engineered for all types of hair extractions. It is designed to respond appropriately to different skin thicknesses, a variable that Dr.U has concluded to be more closely related to graft transection than hair shaft curliness, based on his own direct experience performing surgeries on patients of many different ethnicities. https://dru.com/hair-surgery/dr-us-eyebrow-and-beard-transplant-with-nape-and-leg-hair-helps-teen-start-a-brand-new-life-chapter/
  2. Hello, Oliver. If what you're referring to is the Dr.UPunch™ Curl, not quite - while they are both indeed members of the Dr.UGraft™ family of FUE tools, there are several key differences. The primary one will be the fact that the Curl is a manual, non-rotary punch, while the Dr.UGraft™ system as a whole is an all-inclusive suite with a rotary, mechanical punch at its helm. The Dr.UGraft™ system is a successor of the Dr.UPunch™ Curl and is perfectly capable of performing in all of the same situations that the Curl is known for. To learn more about the entire Dr.UGraft™ line, visit our site. Thank you for getting in touch.

  4. On the market for the latest hair transplant technology? FUE hair surgeon in LA Dr. Umar has spent many years perfecting his FUE system Dr. UGraft ™. At the heart of his creation is the Dr.UPunch i ™ FUE punch, a landmark design that has greatly expanded the potential of FUE treatment. The FUE process is safe and relatively non-invasive. Some patients come to our office expressing concern about scarring in the donor area. While no surgical procedure is completely scar-less, the Dr.UGraft ™’s patented Dr.UPunch i ™’s FUE punch tip is engineered to minimize FUE scarring while simultaneously harvesting the healthiest, bulkiest, and most viable grafts possible for your hair transplant procedure. The graft yield and survival rates made possible by the Dr.UGraft ™ system are unmatched, especially in patients of color suffering from sudden hair loss and severe baldness. Dr.UGraft ™ makes FUE hair replacement and BHT hair transplant possible for every patient seeking relief, regardless of their circumstances or hair texture. The Dr. U Hair Clinic in Redondo Beach firmly believes in FUE treatment as the best hair transplant method. We’ve created this short video that goes into much more detail on what makes our FUE equipment so radically different from those of the past.
  5. FUE hair transplant is one of the most versatile solutions for those suffering from hair loss, male pattern, hormonal, premature, or otherwise. As an expert in the practice of FUE in all types of patients, Los Angeles-based hair surgeon Dr. Sanusi Umar has spent some time developing his own proprietary system of FUE tools, all under the Dr.UGraft™ brand. Dr. U’s Dr.UGraft™ system not only makes body hair transplant procedures more effective than ever - its intelligently-flaring punch tip is especially conducive to FUE hair transplant procedures done on individuals with curly, Afro-textured hair (where only manual punches were a viable choice prior), completely eliminating the need for an FUE hair pre-test. It drastically reduces rates of transection, achieving higher graft yields and follicle survival rates in the recipient area. This video introduces the system and goes into detail about the many benefits it offers patients and practitioners alike. For additional information, you can check us out at UGraft.com .
  6. The patient below was scarred extensively from previous surgeries at other clinics. This left him without much hope for restoration, so he settled for a double-flap procedure to allow him to use a hairpiece. Then, he learned about Dr. Sanusi Umar’s hair transplant repair technique, published in journals such as the Facial Plastic Surgery Journal of North America. After an initial consultation, it was clear that the natural hair pattern of the patient would have to be reconstructed using hair from areas other than the head. Dr. U was able to perform this procedure by using his Dr.UGraft System™ to extract the necessary grafts - 15,000 from the chest, shoulders, and abdomen, 6,000 from the beard, and 1,000 from the head. Body hair follicles tend to grow at an angle underneath the skin, which is why a specialized tool is required. The patient is happy with this results, shown 3 years after beginning his restoration with Dr.UGraft™. To learn more about this case, watch the video below or click here.
  7. This patient had a history of hair loss and poor results from previous hair restoration attempts. These procedures not only failed to reverse hair loss, but also left visible scars on his consequently depleted donor area. Ready to give up on any hope of restoration, he became aware of Dr. U’s success with repairs for head-donor depleted patients using non-head hair. After a consultation, he was ready to give a body hair to head transplant with Dr.UGraft™ a shot. Using the Intelligent Punch™ (Dr.UPunch i™), which features patented and unpatented graft grip, pull, score, and release mechanisms, Dr. U was able to safely extract a total of 6,500 grafts. Roughly 3150 grafts came from the beard, 1300 from the nape of the neck, and 500 from the chest. The other 1550 grafts were harvested from the head. The grafts were used to not only provide coverage over hair loss and scarring but to also recreate a more natural-looking hairline. Watch the video here to see the full results and hear the patient’s experience with Dr.UGraft. Additionally, you can learn more about this case here: https://dru.com/hair-surgery/repairing-donor-hair-depleted-patient-using-dr-ugraft/
  8. Traction alopecia is a mechanical form of hair loss, often associated with harsh grooming practices such as tight ponytails and braids. It tends to predominantly affect women of African descent, due to the prevalence of such hairstyles for curly hair. The patient below noticed her edges were beginning to recede after years of wearing tight ponytails. She consulted Dr. Sanusi Umar in Los Angeles about her options. Dr. Umar (aka Dr. U), recommended a linear-scar free FUE hair transplant to reverse her receding edges. In order to safely extract the tightly curled, afro-textured hair, Dr. U used the Dr.UGraft System together with the manual Dr.UPunch Curl. The sharp, curved tip of the punch minimizes the issue of thicker skin tissue, stronger attachments, and allows for a manual plunging motion in order to safely score around the curled hair follicle. A comparative study found this tool to be 100% more effective than conventional FUE punches in a study on 18 patient cases with afro-textured hair. The patient is pleased with her results. You can learn more about this procedure here.

  10. Those interested in the latest advancements in hair transplant may be excited to learn that Dr. Umar (aka Dr. U) has performed the world’s first ultrasonic FUE hair transplant on afro-textured hair. This history-making debut can be seen in the surgical demonstration below: Dr. Umar is keenly aware of the need to advance hair transplant tools for all patients, especially those considered to be challenging due to hair type/skin texture. Often, patients with tightly-curled, afro-textured hair experience unsatisfactory results from FUE hair transplants due to the inability of conventional rotary punches to navigate the severe angles of the curled follicles and overcome tough dermis and strong attachment of the follicle to the deep skin. He previously pioneered the manual Dr.UPunch Curl™ to overcome obstacles in afro-textured hair with its sharp, two-pronged, curved punch tip operated via manual plunging motion. A comparative study documenting 18 patient cases published in the PRS Global Open found this non-rotary device to be 100% successful where others extraction tools had failed. However, Dr. Umar knew that there is always room for improvement. This improvement is the addition of ultrasound. Dr. U harnesses the energy of ultrasonic waves to vibrate the Dr.UPunch Curl™ at a frequency suited to the particular patient's tissue profile. This enables the easier extraction of hair follicles which are tightly curled under the skin and which have stronger attachments to the surrounding tissue. You can find more details about this procedure here.
  11. Hello Hair Restoration Network community, It is no secret that traditional FUE tools have had problems in the safe and reliable extraction body hair. Practitioners using these tools often report poor results. An important factor accounting for this is the trauma endured by grafts extracted using conventional FUE tools, which have less problems in head hair extraction. The difference that results in problematic extraction is the angulation of body hair below the skin surface. Since this is hidden in the skin, the operator would have to guess the angles unless he or she is equipped with a tool that assists by self navigating and tracking the hair through its tortuous path. Read more about how Dr.UGraft’s patented technology helps to minimize this frustrating issue of subcuticular hair angulation and how it enables easier body hair FUE (BHT), and more consistent production of viable grafts. In the video below, you will see how the Dr.UGraft System, featuring the Intelligent Punch (Dr.UPunch i), safely and efficiently extracts hair from a chest donor area using patented and patent-pending graft grip, pull, score, and release mechanisms. Also witness in the video, the “FUE Swipe Maneuver” explained by Dr. U in this breakthrough body hair transplant publication in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. This is made possible by the graft grip, pull, score and release mechanism mentioned above. Stay tuned for more surgical demonstrations on other problem areas in follicular unit extraction hair restoration surgery, and how the Dr.UGraft advanced hair transplant system overcomes them.
  12. Thank you Bill, This video is an overview introduction to what the technology is capable of. As you can see, even in the setting of a scarred donor, the punch was able to self-guide and separate the grafts with minimal control from the operator. In the subsequent weeks, we will take on each and every identified FUE issue and demonstrate in live videos how Dr.UGraft ameliorates them. The rotary motion of the Intelligent Punch (combined with patented and patent-pending graft pulling features) pushes away attachments, leaving the graft separated from surrounding tissue in such a way that secondary dissection is not always needed - often, many grafts can be safely collected by simply swiping a piece of gauze over the area. When the graft comes out with the punch, it is known as impaction - other FUE surgeries may require the use of forceps to remove this graft, which can result in mechanical damage, or, in the interest of time, the surgeon may simply "sacrifice" the graft and keep extracting, pushing that impacted graft deeper into the lumen. However, the Dr.UGraft System integrates a fluid irrigation feature which allows for continuous hydration as well as safe graft rescue via fluid ejection. On the contrary, the Dr.UGraft System combines patented graft control features and fluid irrigation for faster and more efficient procedures without sacrificing graft quality. Of course, we will leave it to the well-informed membership of this community to discern for itself. Stay tuned for more demonstrations that expand on the issues above.
  13. On the contrary, the Dr.UGraft system does not use suction. Rather, it delivers fluid in the opposite direction in order to nourish and sustain the grafts during extraction. The Intelligent Punch, used in the video above, pulls the grafts up to cut around it then release the graft. This is made possible due to several break-through, patented features -- and the reason the Dr.UGraft system is delivering unprecedented yields in FUE and BHT.
  14. We would like to introduce a new, intelligent hair transplant system designed to empower doctors and transform lives. Rather than simply describe the details, I have provided a surgical demonstration below, where you can see the smartness of the FUE tools for yourself. Without further ado: In subsequent weeks we will be posting a series of videos demonstrating how the Intelligent Punch can successfully extract grafts from virtually any donor area. 15. Watch the full video of this patient’s eyebrow transplant here The patient above had always been unhappy with her sparse eyebrows. The ability to grow thick eyebrows is determined by genetics--some people have more densely packed hair follicles, and other do not. Thick eyebrows, while experiencing an uptick in popularity thanks to Cara Delevingne, have always been in style. The patient particularly admired the prominent, thick brows of 80s icon Brooke Shields. She consulted with Dr. U in Los Angeles about the possibility of an eyebrow transplant. Dr. U decided to harvest 350 grafts in order to give the patient the eyebrows of her dreams. Using his advanced FUE system, Dr. U extracted the grafts from the nape of the patient’s neck. He chose the nape as the donor area because nape hairs are a better match for the eyebrow, since they resemble one another in quality and thickness. The patient provided a photograph of the celebrity eyebrows she wanted, which Dr. U used during the implant process for inspiration and guidance on shape, proportionate length and general hair growth patterns. Just six months after surgery, the patient was extremely pleased to flaunt her Brooke Shields-inspired brows. 16. To Watch Full Video: This patient experienced hair loss in her temple areas due to traction alopecia. Traction alopecia, or tension hair loss, as it is sometimes referred to, is the condition in which harsh grooming practices like tight ponytails or weaves pull the follicles from their roots over time. This results in permanent hair loss in the areas pulled with the most force. Dr. U recommended extracting 200 grafts from the donor area on her head. He extracted these follicles using his advanced FUE tool, the Dr.UPunch Rotor, giving the patient a better chance of seeing an increased growth yield after surgery. Dr.U then reconstructed the hairline by carefully inserting the UGrafts into the bald area on the patient’s temple. During this process, Dr. U takes into account the growth pattern on the scalp and matches it in order to produce natural results. The patient is thrilled with the results of her surgery. Using the Dr.UGraft system, she was able to overcome her hair loss. The patient can pull her hair up without worrying about her bald spots, which giver her more confidence in her appearance. 17. In this case Dr. Umar repaired a bad hair tattoo using a FUE hair transplant using his Dr.UGraft technique on an African-American patient from Los Angeles, CA. The individual had previously experienced a scalp micropigmentation (SMP) in an effort to restore his temples and hairline. Before the patient visited Dr. Umar, he'd undergone a scalp micropigmentation (SMP) process by a different practitioner. The individual was unhappy with the outcomes of the SMP for 2 reasons: 1) the pigment had been put within his receding temples, leading to a noticeable gap 2) the pigment was deposited to deep which can turn green or blue. Overall, this compelled his SMP to appear incredibly unrealistic. The patient had originally sought out scalp micropigmentation since as an African American, he did not believe he is a candidate for a hair transplant. Unhappy with his appearance, he scheduled an interview with Dr. Umar to explore his options for repairing his botched tattooed toenails. Dr. Umar used his patented Dr.UPunch Rotor to carry out the FUE hair transplant on the patient. Because the individual is African-American he usually would not be the right candidate for a conventional FUE hair transplant, which could only be achieved effectively on patients with straight or wavy hair. However, the groundbreaking Dr.UPunch tool allows for FUE on all hair types. Dr. Umar used his Dr.UGraft Revolution system to not only fix the terrible hair tattoo, but also revive the individual's hairline and general hair density... all with just 1375 grafts. The patient was ecstatic with his results. For More Information About This Bad Hair Tattoo Patient CLICK HERE.
  18. While hair loss usually starts to show later in the life of a man , on occasion a male can experience severe hair loss at a young age. The patient featured here began to suffer by the age of 23, dropping most of the hair on his crown and the entirety of his hairline. In addition, the patient needed a cost effective approach, and had limited resources being a student. Like many other people, he turned to Dr. Umar in Los Angeles for a solution. Dr. U recommended 2,000 grafts, considered a small amount for any transplant, conducted over two different sessions. The plan was to reach a 'less is more' alternative that resulted with the patient adding density to his crown area and a new hairline. By harvesting from different parts of his head and neck, Dr. Umar managed to strategically space out the Dr. UGrafts to mimic the appearance of a complete head of hair. Regardless of the age and the budget, a successful solution can been reached by Dr. Umar and his Dr. UGraft for young aged hair transplant. 19. To Watch Full Video: After experiencing a failed traditional FUE procedure that used a basic rotary punch and further bad results from a scalp micropigmentation (SMP), this African American man sought the help of Dr Umar, a world renowned hair transplant surgeon located in Los Angeles, CA. Dr U has invented a FUE tool called the DrUPunch Curl, specifically designed for performing FUE hair transplants for black men and women, regardless of hair curliness or skin texture. In a recent Plastic and Reconstructive Global Open Journal publication, Dr Umar showed that where other punches have failed, the DrUPunch Curl is successful in extracting any and all Afro-textured hair. In this patient, Dr. U transplanted a total of 2,320 grafts in a two-stage procedure. DrUPunch Curl — the best tool for FUE hair transplant for black men and women! 20. VIDEO: (If the video does not appear embedded, please click on the link.) BEFORE: This patient had always been unhappy with his naturally uneven hairline. After doing some research on the topic he decided that the only way that he would be content with his hairline would be to lower it towards the forehead. In order to look natural, it was also important to strengthen his temple points to match his new hairline. As you can see in the images below, the patient’s hairline is noticeably higher on the right side and this makes the hairline look uneven. THE PROCEDURE: After a consultation, the patient and the surgeon mutually decided that it would take about 3200 head donor grafts from the head and nape areas to craft a new hairline using Dr U’s advanced FUE DrUGraft method, which is able to harvest otherwise difficult to access hair such as nape hair. By moving the hairline lower and sculpting new temple points, the forehead’s size would be reduced in a credible, natural looking way. Dr U has published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal the results of using nape hair in hairline and temple creation using advanced FUE techniques. In the paper he described a screening method for selecting good candidates for the use of nape hair in transplantation. RESULTS - PHOTOS PATIENT TESTIMONIAL: The new areas blend well with what is already present, yet still work well with the shape of the patient’s face. Previously the patient was only able to wear his hair straight back, but since the procedure, he is able to part and style it in a variety of ways, giving him the freedom to control his look. You can read more about this patient’s very successful hairline transplant forehead size reduction and view his video here. 21. VIDEO: BEFORE: Thinning area of NW 6 level began at high school. For this reason he underwent several ill advised strip and head FUE transplants at another facility. He ended up, head hair donor exhausted, still bald, an odd hair pattern, strip and FUE scarring and disillusioned….until he found Dr Umar. THE PROCEDURE: Though very hesitant and gun shy from prior poor experience, he trusted Dr Umar to do his repair. Dr U, utilized beard, nape, chest and few head hair to complete the repair in one session using advanced FUE methods and DrUGraft Revolution machine and Rotary punch ((DrUPunch Rotor). Graft info: Beard 3150; Head 1550; Nape 1300; and Chest 500 RESULTS - PHOTOS The patient, needless to say, is very happy with his result from Dr Umar: You can read more about this patient’s very successful hair transplant repair case here. 22. VIDEO: For years, patients with curly and textured hair, predominantly African-American patients, had limitations when it came to consistent and successful FUE surgeries. Dr. U recently invented his UPunch Curl extraction device to revolutionize how FUE is done in patients previously deemed ineligible. Patients who were previously unable to receive proper FUE surgery had the following issues: · Tight curly hair · Thicker skin · Hair follicle connective tissue sheath to outer root sheath connection But now, thanks to the UPunch Curl’s design and elimination of typical rotary function, patients who were once unable to enjoy the benefits of FUE Hair Transplantation can now get the full treatment they need. CASE EXAMPLE The patient below used to be ineligible for traditional FUE surgery. The UPunch Curl enabled Dr. U to extract 1600 grafts in two sessions to provide a natural and fuller look. The patent-pending non-rotary functionality of the UPunch Curl allows Dr. U to extract from Afro-textured haired patients with tighter hair curls. The video of the patient is shown at the beginning of this post. You can also view it by clicking this link: https://www.dru.com/videos/?#/?playlistId=0&videoId=1 . His photos are presented below: PHOTOS The photos above illustrate how the patient’s thick and curly hair were successfully transplanted to give him a natural and fuller head of hair. After only one year, the patient has a completely transformed look.
