I want to be sure that I am getting the authentic stuff. What should I pay? Can I cut the pills in 1/4ths and still get the same result as propecia? Bill - Seemiller Posted December 3, 2008 Share Posted December 3, 2008 Clint, Online pharmacies sell generic finasteride in 1mg and 5mg tablets. Personally however, I've always been reluctant to get prescription medication without a prescription. That's my I get an actual prescription for Proscar from my last hair transplant surgeon. It's only about $80 for a 4 month supply. Proscar contains the same active ingredient as Propecia, just more of it. Taking 1/4 Proscar pill daily ends up being very close to the same dosage of finasteride as Propecia when taken over 4 days.
