Regular Member lookin Posted March 10, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted March 10, 2014 I just recently started on Finasteride (about one week ago), and know that it is expected to start shedding in the first few months. To what extent, seems to be very individualized. So far, I haven't seen any, but from what I've read it can come on quite quickly. I'm planning on having my first HT in about a month, and am worried that I will be shedding heavily through the front and top. If that does happen, will I be at a higher risk for transection when the surgeon places the grafts, as there will be no hair in that particular spot due to shedding? In other words, will being balder than I normally am, (due to the finasteride shed) increase the surgeons risk of easily transecting native hair. And what about donor hair? Do you shed donor hair on Fin too? If so, wouldn't that mean I have even less hair than normal to harvest! Thanks for your opinions
Regular Member lookin Posted March 10, 2014 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 10, 2014 Any insight you guys have would be great. I know so many of you are a wealth of knowledge, and for a newbie, I really appreciate it! I just don't know if I should put off a HT, or go for it! Regular Member lookin Posted March 10, 2014 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 10, 2014 I've only been on it for about a week. I just didn't know if I should stop, or if it won't make much difference in a months time. I told my doctor I was thinking of doing the HT, and he said to get on the fin "immediately." But he's not a hair specialist, and I actually trust all you guys and your experience more. So many of you have seen it all!
Senior Member hsrp10 Posted March 11, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted March 11, 2014 Fin is something that affects everyone differently it seems, and you really don't know the true results unfortunately until after several months on it. Seems to work more for the vertex and crown, so if you are more interested in saving that area than you may consider continuing Any other side effects beside shedding? Is your scalp more greasy on it for example? the main thing before a HT is to not change your routine immediately before/after the procedure are you shedding thin fine hairs or thicks ones btw? go dense or go home Unbiased advice and opinions based on 25 plus years of researching and actual experience with hair loss, hair restoration via both FUT & FUE, SMP, scalp issues including scalp eczema & seborrheic dermatitis and many others HSRP10's favorite FUT surgeons: *Dr. Konior, *Dr Hasson, Dr. Rahal HSRP10's favorite FUE surgeons: *Dr. Konior, *Dr. Bisanga, Dr. Erdogan, Dr. Couto (*indicates actual experience with doctor)

Senior Member Paulygon Posted March 11, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted March 11, 2014 i stopped propecia about 4 months before,to give the dr,my honest hairline. that was a nice, ballsy move.. most people would not do that because it takes so much time to gain results from the propecia.. and in those 4 months you revert back to your old hairline (which was your plan)... How did you feel about your strategy-- do you feel you benefited?
