Acell&PRP injection treatment

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had Acell&PRP injections done, and if so, how were the results. I heard there is a doctor in Tacoma, Wasington (Dr. Niedbalski-nothwest hair restoration) He charges about $3000 for this treatment. I wouldnt mind paying this much if I knew it worked for sure!

Prp/Acell injection looked very promising a few years ago, but it pretty much faded since the results seem to be hit or miss and quite underwhelming as a stand alone treatment. It is still being used and studied as a supplemental procedure to a hair transplant and is thought to help with healing, shockloss and Acell may even help with donor regeneration. My opinion is that it is not worth the money as a stand alone procedure and $3000 sounds like it is on the high side. If you really want to give it a go research some of the doctors recommended here who offer the treatment, they will probably be less expensive and won't blow smoke up your you know what.

I had the stand alone treatment done about 7 months ago. All it did for me was make my hair a little bit darker and possible provide slightly better scalp health. It did not regenerate or boost any miniaturized follicles and if it did, the cosmetic difference was nothing. The claim is slows loss is still unknown as loss happens progressively and slowly, so you won’t really know. Maybe some respond better than others, but some people win the lottery too……hmm, what are your chances. I did it because I was one that had to know… now I know.

 

Guess it depends on your level of loss too. I'm a NW5. You being a NW3 might yeild a better benefit, since you haven't lost as much hair.

Thank you guys for your feedback. I have had HT earlier this year (3500grafts) with dr. Arocha in Houston. I like the results but I just wanted to maintain my current hair. I'm also doing low level laser therapy, and take saw palmetto. I wanted to stay away from propecia.

I do think that this PRP/Acell treatment is pretty costly, but they were showing such great results on youtube. It originated from dr. Hitzig, and a few docs are doing it. I just moved to Southern California and wanted to see if maybe there are some doctors who offer it down here. It's worth going to an interview if I find someone nearby. But if you say it's not effective, I might not do it. I just wish there was something out there that could be useful. I'm only 33yrs old!

PRP/Acell has unfortunately not shown to live up to the hype. As Greatjob said, there was quite a bit of potential in the beginning but the past few years have shown that the potential has fizzled but unfortunately a lot of clinics still offer it, charge a premium, and have little to show for it. Most of what I've seen as far as results go are the typical wet before pictures and dry, combed and styled after pictures. The healing abilities of Acell have also been over hyped with the results under delivering. It all boils down to you paying 3000 dollars for nothing more than kitchen sink science.

I agree with above statements that PRP is not giving enough good results to justify charging $2-3k...rather save that money and get a permanent hair transplant.

 

IF you visit the ISHRS.org...they are the educating board that teaches hair transplant doctors about hair transplantation. IF you search for PRP...you'll find a great article that confirms PRP is not yet proven to help in hair restoration....and even states it's unethical for doctors to be promoting it as a hair rejuvenation method for dead follicles..

 

I think a lot of doctors are jumping on this in order to "create an edge" so they get more visits than the actual results patients are getting. Even if say 10-20% of patients do benefit somewhat, I think it takes "cojones" to charge $2-3k for something that has a failure rate of 80%....

 

Were you made to sign paperwork or does it state in their website that they don't guarantee results from PRP??? Most doctors do in order to cover their buts.....bad!!!

Dr Arocha did not offer or recomend Acell/PRP. He just did the HT for me. I just recently came across that treatment option myself on youtube. It looked promising. I will check out that article on ISHRS.org on prp treatment.

I did think 3K is a lot of money for a 2 hr treatment!

I think you should save your money my friend, spend it on something you like go for a nice vacation or something. These treatments if they really did something these forums would be raving with positive feedback. All you hear is i think my hair are shinier, i think my scalp looks healthier, i might have less hair shedding...i can tell you all these just by changing to a new shampoo.

Like a few others stated, PRP may play a role in hair transplant surgery itself - i.e. graft storage medium -, but I don't think we have extensive enough evidence to call it a proven stand-alone treatment.
