Regular Member HairGreed Posted July 7, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted July 7, 2013 All, I had a quick question- When is it it absolutely safe for me to sleep normally after HT? I am worried about rolling my head from the pillow on the mattress, costant rubbing of transplanted area against the pillow/mattress and also the twistings and turnings while sleeping. When do I not worry about ruining my transplant while sleeping?

Senior Member Britanium Posted July 7, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted July 7, 2013 Hopefully you wont be bleeding and therefore shouldnt do any damage whatsoever. I have had 3 HTs and the 1st couple of nights i slept kind of propped up on a v pillow.
Senior Member Britanium Posted July 7, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted July 7, 2013 Just be as careful as you can for the 10 days following your surgery - they will be firmly in place by then.
Senior Member Nick153452 Posted July 7, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted July 7, 2013 I am a huge tosser and turner when I sleep, and I didn't have any problems. If you really think it's going to be that big of a problem, try sleeping on an inclined chair. Regular Member HairGreed Posted July 7, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted July 7, 2013 I meant 1 month post op not immediately after the surgery.
Senior Member Britanium Posted July 7, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted July 7, 2013 You will be fine 1 month on. no need to worry all the grafts will be firmly in. And in their resting phase. Most if not all of the normal shedding would have taken place !
Regular Member HairGreed Posted July 7, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted July 7, 2013 Cool. Thanks John. One last thing, when can I start operating my lawn-mower, vaccum, machinery etc. post op without the risk of graft damage?
Senior Member Britanium Posted July 7, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted July 7, 2013 It was recommended by my surgeon i should not do heavy exercise/manual labour for 3 weeks after op. However all normal activities can resume pretty much straight away.
Senior Member xtatic5 Posted July 8, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted July 8, 2013 One thing to consider about sleeping (for FUT patients): I like to use a couple of pillows and I recently realized (at 5.5 months) that my chin almost touches my chest when laying on my back. I don't know if this has a proven effect on scar stretching but it's worth a thought.
