Senior Member MAGNUMpi Posted June 8, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 8, 2013 Hey Darren, you should probably go to a dermatologist with a list of all the meds/supplements that you are taking and get his advice. Might be something simple like one of the things you are taking is producing this effect for you or maybe he'll find that it's something else, but why wait... worth a try before you lose too much hair. Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted June 8, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 8, 2013 Darren, How long ago did you start the finasteride, and how long did you use the nioxtin before you stopped? Remember that shedding 50-150 hairs a day is considered normal as well. Regardless, I think Magnumpi brings up a good point; starting with a visit to a trusted hair loss expert may be a good place to start. Senior Member tacolinowest Posted June 8, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 8, 2013 future, why is it that they say people that have no hair loss lose about 100 hairs a day, but when they shower and wash their hair, nothing comes out, for example, you have no hair loss really, when you shower and shampoo your hair, how many hairs are on your hands when your done shampooing it, im curious, cuz when i do it its about 4-10 hairs each time,,, like i will shampoo for a few seconds then look at my hands, 5 hairs, then wash them off, rub my head some more, look at my hands 6 hairs,, ill repeat this process a few times, all in all about 40-50 hairs in 1 shower give or take,, how about you? Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted June 8, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 8, 2013 You've got to remember that 100 hairs per day is going to average 8 to 9 hairs per hour, night and day. It's easy to count hairs in the shower because they stick to our hands but I don't think most of us are aware of most of the hair we lose during the day and evening. 50 hairs in a 15 minute shower adds up if similar loss is experienced through the day. It's even harder to notice this fallen hair if you keep a very short hairdo. I can remember when I was in my early twenties and had hair down to the middle of my back. In those days, it was easy to spot my hair everywhere: especially clogging up the drains. I definitely try to be aware of whats coming off when I shampoo or style my hair. I can remember times when I experienced heavy shedding and times where almost nothing was shedding. David - Former Forum Co-Moderator and Editorial Assistant I am not a medical professional. Regular Member BlackAmish111 Posted June 8, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted June 8, 2013 @OP: You might want to also consider seeing an Endo as I used to experience exactly what your talking about -that is, LOTS of thin single hair strands in my hand from just mild brushes against it. This always confused me as I would think I was going bald but then the hair would come back strong again -turned out to be a low thyroid and meds eventually stopped it for the most part but I still needed the HT to restore much of it. Yours may be fine if they are outta whack, your hair can always fall out no matter what you do until you get it under control.
Senior Member GreatPelo Posted June 8, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 8, 2013 I would go to a hair specialist. Dermatologists, although they are respected doctors, don't know as much as hair specialist. I think you're on track with what you're taking and yes we do lose 100-150 hairs a day...which normally get replaced with others...but not if we have the hair loss gene. Therapy, Propecia, will help reduce hair Loss....but no therapy stops hairless 100%. Best of luck!
Senior Member xtatic5 Posted June 9, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 9, 2013 Darren, do you have curly hair? I do and before biotin I also had handfuls of hair in the shower and sink. I am not suffering hair loss at all. All people shed 50-100 hairs per day, but those with curly hair will notice more in the shower because it gets tangled and doesn't fall from the head until agitated. Straight hair does not tangle and therefore falls throughout the day.
Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted June 9, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 9, 2013 An appointment with an endocrinologist might not be a bad idea! You can likely find one that does a lot of work with alopecia as well. Good luck!
