Dr. Bassin in Tampa?

I may have posted this a year or so ago, if I did I can't find the post, but has anyone had or heard of any experiences with this guy? The Tampa talk radio station I listen to is filled with his ads, and he is touting not only no shedding of the transplanted hair but that they begin to grow immediately. In looking at his website, it looks like he only does FUE, no strip, but I don't see any revolutionary new procedure.

I've had two procedures done, and both times had all the transplanted hair fall out and not start to grow again for a good 6 months, which I had expected. However, my last procedure was over 5 years ago, and I haven't really kept up with the latest news in this area, so I'm wondering if there's any truth to his hype.

Tax,

It looks like this physician uses the NeoGraft machine to perform Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). Contrary to some beliefs, FUE does creating scarring (albeit different and often less noticeable scarring) and the timeline for growth is the same as Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) surgery. This means that the newly implanted grafts will shed between week 2 and month 2, and will begin regrowing around month 3.

Here is a link for some more information about the NeoGraft FUE machine.

TaxGuy,

I also have had a few hair transplants...luckily...have had great results. NeoGraft is just a harvesting tool. It all comes down to a surgeon's artistic skill that delivers natural results. That being said, my question about the doctor you mention is Does he and his team specialize in hair transplantation or do they offer a plethora of services? You have to ask yourself....if a doctor offers so many services...how many hair transplant surgeries does he/she do per month and how good are the results? How long has he been doing hair transplants for??? Also, some doctors who don't have experience in hair are having technicians do the work....so PATIENT BEWARE!!!

My recommenation to you is to find a specialist in hair transplantation...for many years, check credentials (how involved are they in the industry) and check testimonials on this forum, Google, RealSelf, Doctorscorecard, etc.

Best of luck!
