Assess my hairloss through photos..

Hey peeps,

I am uploading photos of my current hair loss situation. Can somebody please analyze them and let me know the type of hair loss stage I am at. Also can you please assist me in identifying how many grafts I would need.

I am more concerned about re constructing my hair line and sprinkling some grafts over the crown area.

My donor area is pretty thick and as you can see my hair is black and straight. Towards my sideburns the hair may appear thinner but that's only because the hairdresser makes it thinner there with the machine for some reason.

Some of the photos are taken after a shower when hair was wet and some were taken when hair was dry.

I am 23yo, been experiencing hair loss for a few years. My hairline was damaged by a hair dresser who burnt my scalp with hair dye causing it to fall out and never recover. I do have a history of balding in my family. My grandfather has full head of hair. Out of my three uncles, 2 have thick hair and one is completely bald. My father is bald. So pretty much 2 from 5 males in my family are bald and 3 from 5 have normal thick hair.

I have been told that everybody in my family had really thick hair but within 1-2 years my dad and uncle lost theirs at the ages of 30.

Any advice would be great. Thanks

It appears that you're at about a 3V on the Norwood stages, but also what I call an early 5A. It appears that you are experiencing on top and bridge areas, and I believe you will eventually lose everything down the middle from your hairline to your crown. As you are very young, the best thing to do is to take preventative medication such as Rogaine foam, and Propecia which can also regrow hair, and at the stage you're in I believe you can see some regrowth as you have a lot of miniaturized hairs that may benefit significantly. After using the medication for 9-12 months you'll be able to see the results and then you can reevaluate your position on having a procedure, but I wouldn't recommend surgery until you use the meds. Schedule a consultation with specialist and get their personal opinion. If you need anymore help you can private message me.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand I am only 23yo and I do understand the consequences of doing a hair restoration early. I am confident with the continued use of finastride and nizoral as well as a hair restoration on my hair line, I can stabilize the hair loss situation.

I do believe that by the time I am 30, that there will be much better methods and maybe even a cure for hair loss. I just don't want to live my 20's constantly worrying about my hair loss. It consumes too much of my time to be honest. I know it's vain, but that's life.

I will wait until june next year to see how the finasteride has worked. I have been on it for almost 5months and it has done nothing. Time will tell I guess!

That sounds like a very good plan. Just so you know it usually takes at least 6 months to notice any difference with either Rogaine or Propecia so don't be alarmed if you haven't seen anything yet; that is to be expected. People usually see their hair get a little worse before it gets better within the first 2-3 months on the medication which again is expected but will return healthier and fuller. Keep us updated in a few months.

I agree with the advice you've been given so far. Have you considered going with a buzz cut? That will help diminish the thinning hair and could give you a pretty nice look. After you've been on Propecia for at least a year you can start talking with some surgeons to see if there is anything they can do.

I have considered doing a buzz cut, but seriously I just can't do it lol. I workout, so my body is where I want it to be, I just need a tan now haha.

Honestly I might just ride it out until end of next year, see where I am at and from there make a choice. I might use concealers for the time being! Who would have knew something as simple as a hair follicle, could annoy somebody so bad

Hey Moey

I'm in a similar position.. I'm going to run with minoxidil and finastride for about 9 months (I'm 26 and have been on it for 3 months so far) and then hopefully get a FUE transplant around April next year.

Good luck mate!

Hey mate,

If its your first time on the minoxidil you will probably get really good results 6months+. If your using the rogaine foam, search on eBay for it you can probably get 8 cans for $130 instead of 3 for $120 in an Australian chemist!

I'm dropping the rogaine and just doing nizoral 2% shampoo and generic fin at 1mg per day.

It was announced they are releasing a cure or a better medication next year! And with the advancements of scarless surgery it might be best to just wait it out.

Goodluck with your battle!!!

Thanks for the tip mate.. I've already bought heaps of bottles of the 5% Minoxidil for cheap online :)

What announcement are you referring to??

Cheers!

Yeah hopefully the minoxidil works for you.

It was on the news about 2months ago, in the USA they claim to have found a cure for baldness. Now the scientists who have found it are in negotiations with pharmaceutical companies to try and make a lotion or some sort of medication.

Put it this way, the greedy evil pharmaceutical companies are the only reason there isn't a cure out now anyway. There is just too much money in selling crap like rogaine and finasteride for them to want to give us a cure. I bet this lotion will work but will have to be used for a lifetime!

Baldness cure could be on shelves in two years - Telegraph
