artvandelay
hi..im new here..im 26 and still have some coverage, but definitely pretty thin on my entire crown area...i was wondering since ive yet to start taking finasteride this week and am about to have a surgery in a month or two with dr. hasson if its too soon..ive done all my research and havent found any answer to if its better to wait or if it makes no difference at all..i heard from a councelor that it wont make a difference if ive been on finasteride for a year before the surgery or if only a month..my hair will react to it the same..it will react or it wont..im just nervous like anyone else would be and wasnt sure if i should try the pill for a year and see how it goes or pull the trigger..any thoughts? Senior Member drmstx Posted March 25, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted March 25, 2010 The crown is a very tricky place to put grafts on. It thins fast and require a LOT more no. of grafts to fill in. You might have a HT right away, fill in the crown and still have native hair loss there because you just started on the drugs. A second surgery would be inevitable then. At this point, I would suggest going on finasteride and rogaine (which claims to work only on the crown, so it fits your case perfectly) for at least one year, see some stabilization in your hair loss and then go for a HT. Senior Member badger_01 Posted March 25, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted March 25, 2010 You're only 26. Get on propecia for 6 mos, see if you respond and then decide on surgery. In the meantime use some toppik or dermatch to add density to your crown. - badger 3279 grafts with Dr Gabel - 06/12/08 My Hair Loss Website - Hair Transplant with Dr. Gabel
