Regular Member LSorvats Posted April 14, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted April 14, 2011 Why is it some HT surgeons insist on working on a shaved recipient area, whereas others insist on the opposite? In my hours and hours of research, this is one question that gets answered in such a black/white way depending on the surgeon. Some say "you absolutely have to shave the recipient are to ensure great results." Others say "that’s completely wrong, please leave whatever native hair you have so we can match the direction of the hair better." Would love to hear what the members on this forum have to say. Thanks...
Senior Member bonkerstonker Posted April 14, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 14, 2011 None insist in leaving hair long in the recpient area some ask to leave your hair for them to shave so they can leave the areas around recipient area for the hair directions! Senior Member Dutch Posted April 14, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 14, 2011 Each surgeon has their own opinion obviously but the ones who shave the scalp want the new hair to match the direction of the existing hair for more naturalness & to avoid hitting & damaging existing follicles with the new grafts being inserted. The crown must be tricky to operate on with existing hair on it & with blood on top. In an ideal world, no one wants that half shaved jack a*s look http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2329
Senior Member multiplier Posted April 14, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 14, 2011 to avoid hitting & damaging existing follicles with the new grafts being inserted. But doesn't the follicle extend below the surface of the scalp? In which case, what does it matter if the head is shaved or not? The damage would still be the same.
