Is there permanent shock loss after FUE?

Hey all, I'm "still" considering and HT many years after I become a forum member here. My hairline keeps receeding. I turn 32 in May. I'm currently a Norwood 3 probably, with just overall thinning everywhere. My fears are:

 

1. Future loss after the HT so that things look really strange after a couple of years. I do not want to take meds.

 

2. Shock loss to where my current hair never grows back and the end result after 3-5 years from now is hair that looks worse than if I never got an HT

 

Could you guys provide suggestions/comments regarding those? Should I even consider an HT? Is there a specific doctor that is better at FUE? I "think" I'd prefer FUE simply because of the lack of a big scar.

Future hair loss is virtually guaranteed for most men. Many hair restoration physicians will perform miniaturization mapping in order to help predict where a patients hair loss may be heading. Most hair transplant physicians highly recommend that their patients medically stabilize their hair loss prior to undergoing surgery. Choosing not to do so may have you chasing your hair loss with subsequent procedures.

 

Shock loss is almost always temporary. Some very weak and miniaturized hairs may not regrow but most will.

 

As for which doctors are best at FUE, I suggest using the forum's search feature for patient reviews and commentary. Not all of our recommended physicians perform FUE but many do and you can find countless examples of their quality work posted here.

Jeeze, ok, now FUE sounds awful... after reading that page.

 

Ok, follow-up question then. My wife and I are taking a vacation at the end of March and I'd like to schedule the vacation in a location where "the best" overall hair surgeon is located, so I can stop by for an appointment and speak with them.

 

Is there a doctor or 2 that are overwhelmingly more spoken of than the rest?

It's tough to narrow down who to go with when it seems as though everyone is mentioning a different doctor.

Finasteride is said to help protect against shock loss to some extent. Any surgery to the scalp can cause shock loss, but if it is healthy hair it will come back.

Usually it's the weak diffused hair that des not come back once shocked out. That hair is already miniturized and on its way out.
