Senior Member RCWest Posted January 16, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) What exactly is "ultra refined FUT"? A lot of recommended doctors list follicular unit transplantation, while others list ultra refined follicular unit transplantation. What is the difference?? Also, does ultra refined FUT allow for denser packing? Senior Member Jotronic Posted January 16, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted January 16, 2011 FUT is defined by one thing and one thing only; the use of microscopes to dissect the naturally occurring follicular units. Ultra refined FUT is a term that was first used by Dr. Hasson many years ago when he was speaking about the benefits of the lateral slit technique at an ISHRS conference. In addition to the use of microscopes to dissect the natural bundles it refers to the minimally invasive nature of the incisions made by custom cut blades that are matched up to the size of naturally occurring follicular bundles that are carefully trimmed to remove excess tissue. By carefully trimming the grafts in such a manner the incision is smaller with less interruption of blood flow, faster healing, and after the procedure is mastered, overall higher densities are possible where necessary. Properly performed the recipient scalp heals with no visible scarring or any formations that can indicate that surgery has been performed. Pitting, cobblestoning and ridging are virtually unheard of with this approach. I hope this helps to clarify the differences between the two. The Truth is in The Results Dr. Victor Hasson and Dr. Jerry Wong are members of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians
