Deep Layer Sutures with Staples

Recommended Posts

I would like to find out, when staples are used for closing the excised strip, is the standard practice to install deep layer sutures prior to stapling, or, are staples applied unilaterally without deep layer suturing.

Thank you all.

mmhce,

In most cases, surgeons who use staples only use the staples to seal the wound. In most cases, this does an adequate job in producing a minimal scar. However, some physicians have applied deep layer suturing in addition to the staples to minimize tension on the wound. This can be particularly beneficial for wounds closed under higher tension.

Best wishes,

Bill
