Senior Member PD Posted June 12, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted June 12, 2010 Hello, I am 2nd day post-op and wanted to know what is the right way to sleep, i know elevated position is preferred for first night for swelling, but i dont have any swelling concern - i am more concerned about the staples causing wider scar... what is the right way to sleep ? Should i sleep elevated until the staples come out ? Or is there any other better idea to mitigate widening of the scar or help the healing process ? Thanks much! Senior Member Garageland Posted June 12, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted June 12, 2010 Hi PD, you are perfectly fine to rest you head and staples on the pillow, doing this will not stretch the scar the staples keep it tightly closed. As you say sleeping upright will help with the swelling for the first night but after that you will be fine. --- Former patient and representative for Hasson & Wong. Senior Member PD Posted June 12, 2010 Author Senior Member Share Posted June 12, 2010 (edited) thanks guys, hmm.. interesting, so i guess i dont have to sleep at a slant position after couple days as some seem to suggest on this forum - not sure if that was because you tend to turn sideways easily if you are lying flat on your back. secondly, how do i keep away from scratching off my grafts. during my sleep, i might very well feel the itch and go crazy - other than tying myself behind my back while sleeping, can you guys suggest some ideas... Thanks. Edited June 12, 2010 by PD Disclaimer: I am not a qualified medical professional nor do i work for any doctor, hence these are my personal and honest views.
