1 and 2 procedure results with Bill Reed, MD

This case represents the results after one and two procedures. The first procedure was 2771 total grafts; the 2nd, 2109 grafts. The case is informative in showing the typical results of one and two sessions, especially at the hairline. If a procedure places 40 graft sites per centimeter squared of two hair grafts behind a zone of 50 sites/cm2 of one hair grafts, that multi-hair zone will have about 70 to 75 hairs growing per centimeter squared (40 sites times 2 hairs per graft times 90% survival). A dense appearing hairline is somewhere in the low one hundred hairs per centimeter squared. It is technically and biologically impossible to regularly achieve this higher density with one procedure. Consequently, one procedure should be considered to produce a density in the "70 % dense range" as I feel is shown in the photos of this case. How acceptable this result is depends upon several factors including the contrast of hair color with skin color, hair fiber diameter, how the hair is styled and the hairline design. (A hairline showing some recession occurs in nature with a lower density of hair.)

Dr. Reed,

What a transformation! The results look very natural, and this patient must be pleased with the increased coverage and density. Thank you for presenting this case.
