My question is this, worse case if I do not grow back hair with propecia the least it will do is allow me to maintain my hair?

Does anybody know the % success rate for growing hair?

There is a high percentage chance that Propecia will help you maintain your hair but a much lower percentage of regrowing miniaturized hairs. I recommend checking out Propecia's website which gives all the statistical data and percentages.

A miniaturized hair can be any hair that is shorter and thinner looking than the rest of your hair. Typically hairs that are further along in the miniatirized process will start to lose it's color as well.

 

It is almost impossible to find miniaturized hairs on your own scalp. A dermatologist or hair restoration specialist would be better at spotting them as they are trained to do so and can use magnification.

Thank you Bill. On another note, how did you like Hasson?? Would you recomend?? I am a nw 4 and had 2400grafts 500 on the crown with the balance going on my frontal hairline. At what month should I wait to see if I need more work done??

I feel some stubble after 1 1/2 months use, which coincides with my last hair transplant. Is that the propecia, or remnants from the HT?

I suppose if your hair transplant wasn't that long ago beachair, it could be either the Propecia regrowing miniaturized hair, shocked hairs from the transplant returning, or some early new growth from the HT.

I used to have finastride regurlarly but then stopped as my doc felt it could have side effects..i now consult Dr.Rajput who is not so popular on this forum becoz of Sahil. His medications suggest that I use finastride 1 mg twice a week..I still have hair which I want to save so that I can avoid HT...What do u suggest. Wud taking Finastride twice a week help or i should go for a regular dosage..

Sandip, high. I am not Bill, nor am I a doctor. (All of my knowledge is second hand!) However, maybe I can still be of some help.

 

I have read some posts on other forums that suggest taking a 1 mg pill only twice a week still could indeed have some benefit. Here are the reasons why it could still be helpful.

 

1) Supposedly the dht-suppressing abilities stay within the body for three days after taking the drug.

 

2) I think the official study by Merck (the manufacturer of the original Propecia) found out that a mere .25 of a mg a day is nearly as effective as 1 mg a day.

 

However, having said that, perhaps it might be better to ingest a more steady stream of the medication, rather than be taking pills only two days a week. Have you ever considered splitting your pills up into halves or even quarters? That way you could still be taking a dose every day, yet be knocking down your overall intake. I gather from reading various forums that splitting 1 mg Propecia pills isn't that uncommon.

If you are experiencing side effects from daily use of finasteride, than attempting to take it less frequently is not a bad idea (I am not a doctor and this is based on what I know about Propecia and logic).

 

Space Ace is correct in that there is evidence out there to suggest that less finasteride daily can be of some or even equal benefit in some hair loss sufferers. In fact there are some doctors that even prescribe .5mg per day instead of 1mg per day. This of course is based on what the doctor knows about the patient's level and aggressiveness of the hair loss.

I never had any side effects but my prev doc feared side effects hence asked me to stop regular dosage..I now consult Dr.Rajput who is not that popular on this forum. His prescription are a combination of Multivitamin Tabs and Finastride..Can Medicines stop Hair loss completely. Say Finastride or minioxidil??

It is possible that the combination of propecaia and rogaine can stop hair loss. However it is much more common for the two to significantly slow down the hair loss process. I am not very familiar with dr.Rajput but i can say that multivitamin tablets will probably not do anything for your hair.

Take Finasteride and or Propecia. In addition I would use either Nizoral or Revita to compliment the treatment. This is what we call the BIG 3 or the key treatments that WORK.

 

A multi is good to take regardless but it won't help for hairloss.

I think you mean take finasteride and/or minoxodil. Finasteride in the active ingredient in Propecia

I am using Finastride twice a week with minoxidil(once daily,planning to apply it twice) + some multivitamin tabs. I looked for Nizoral A-D but could not get it. I am using Nizoral manufactured by Johnson & Johnson which has ketoconazole 1%. I have started to use it. I also found ketoconazole 2% solution by Johnson & Johnson but was confused if that was a shampoo or a solution and hence did not buy it.
