Senior Member lorenzo Posted September 5, 2003 Senior Member Share Posted September 5, 2003 I smoked on my breaks from surgery. Sometimes I told the girls that I needed 5 minutes for a smoke and no one said anything. After surgery I probaly smoked more. Either way smoking is a bad habit and we both need to quit. willmar
Thanks, Lorenzo. I had actually quit for 8 mo. when I had my 1st HT on 12-02, so this was not even something that was discussed with the MD. But, unfortunately I recently started smoking again and I didnt really ask about consequences, if any, should I smoke one or 2 cigs after. My second one was on 9-4-03. This time I had 2,585 grafts compared to 1,065 on the first. Any additional comments by anyone is appreciated. By the way I have swelled up like Deniro in Raging Bull. Is prednezone an OTC drug? Senior Member PD Posted September 9, 2003 Senior Member Share Posted September 9, 2003 wilmar, I think i read some poster saying that he was advised against smoking, sex, alcohol for atleast 3 days.. and he succeeded in staying away from them for exactly 72 hrs ! good luck Signature:Please click here to vote for the doctor you would go to if you needed a hair transplantation today! willmar
Thanks PD, its day 5 and all is well. I only smoked 4 or 5 cigs in the first 3 or 4 days and no alcohol (don't drink) or sex. My hope is that it didnt affect anything. Now if I can only get rid of the face swelling. Its down to my cheeks and throat (forehead area went down). Any suggestions ? I am due back to work on 9-11. Thanks. Will
Regular Member trying2moveahead Posted September 9, 2003 Regular Member Share Posted September 9, 2003 If your swelling is as far down as cheeks and throat right now and has left the forehead & eye area, you're probably going to be OK by 9/11 (seems like it goes away pretty quickly then). As far as the smoking thing, I know NHI should have sent you home with very specific instructions about this and other issues (was just there myself within thwe past month or so). I know there were very direct instructions regarding smoking in my packet (although I don't smoke). I believe it all has something to do with possibly impeding healing and may effect scarring somehow. trying2moveahead
Guest
I spoke to one of the leading HT Doctors and if I understand him correctly,he mentioned long time smokers have less sensitivity/numbness in their finger tips and toes~less blood circulation.Although,no one can really prove the effects against that of an HT.My buddy smoked, had sex and drank(not in that particular order )and had an exceptional result.I guess its probably better to drink than smoke ...............I myself haven't dare to give up sex but have lessened my drinking and smoking. It hasn't seemed to effect the overall out come but I'll keep you posted. Goood luck!
willmar
Thanks for the update, Solid. I have a smoking quit date of 9-9-03 (today)anyway. I want to thank all of you who responded to my query. I was just having a nicotine fit more than anything since I had already been cutting back on my 1/2 pack habit and was more concerned with smoking so soon after the HT and if it would cause my grafts to loosen or something. Will keep you guys posted on the progress of this 2nd procedure and include photos when I get them. Thanks again to all.
