Regular Member mxm Posted March 12, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted March 12, 2006 I (as well as my doctor) have noticed that I seem to have many of the symptoms associated with hypothyroidism. Is it possible that this can have a significant effect on hair loss? Also, if it turns out that this is the cause of the problem, will whatever measures taken to treat this problem also help my hair regrow?

Regular Member laughter's medicine Posted March 12, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted March 12, 2006 From what I've read on the net it does seem to and can have a great deal to do with loss. As far as regrowth, I've read yes and no. Your doctor should be able to give better insight to this, providing they have dealt with similar situations. I was tested to ensure this wasn't a problem with me because it has been diagnosed in a few of my family members. Smiling & laughing does wonders for the soul! Senior Member Robert_ Posted March 14, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted March 14, 2006 Yes, hypothyroidism can lead to hairloss. You should go forth in getting your physician to refer you to a specialist so you can have it properly diagnosed and treated. If your hairloss is, indeed, a result of hypothyroidism and is not too advanced you may have a chance of regrowth if you begin treatment soon enough. -Robert ------------------------------ Check out the results of my surgical hair restoration performed by Dr. Jerry Cooley by visiting my Hair Loss Weblog
Regular Member mxm Posted March 14, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 14, 2006 I wasn't referred to a specialist but I am having blood work done probably some time this week to test for it.
