Hi all,

my name is nick and just recently found this site. this has been the best site ive found about hair loss and its been a great help. since reading all of the stories people have posted and getting good feedback i thought id see what you guys think about this. So in 2003 during my freshmen year in college before the patriots vs carolina super bowl made a bet with my buddys about how would win. the bet was who ever lost would have to shave their head totally bald. well... the panthers lost so i headed to the bathroom to start shaving it all off. At this point i have a full head of hair and never had any hair loss and dont have any history of it in my family (either side) for as many generations as i know about. a week after i shaved my head as my hair was growing back i noticed that it was not growing back nearly as thick as it was before i shaved it.

this was bascially the most horrifing thing thats ever happened to me!! so i let i grow back out and at about 1/4 of an inch the hair on the top of my head basically looks like typical MPB. im 18 at the time and pretty depressed about this! my mom even comented about it after not seeing me for a few months and was literally shocked out of her seat. in my stubborn pride and shock adout the situation i did nothing about it for a little over a year thinking it would just come back. it didnt but the thing is though on top id say i lost about 30-35% and havent lost any of what remained and the sides came back normally?? so what do you guys think, sounds weird i know but... any ideas similar experinces?? ive never used minoxidil or rogaine or any thing but nioxin (which did nothing). but i found this web site called rk19.com which sells a vitimin pill for hair growth. was going to try it but wanted to see if anyone else has heard/used it before???

thanks all

Nick

Hi Top

Sorry about your situation.. First of all the RK19 is crap so don't even consider it.. I started losing my hair in college and i know how it feels.. You probably didn't realize you were thinning until your hair was short and you could see the growth pattern.. It might also be bad timing.. Regardless here is what I would do

1- See you doctor

2- possibly start Mindoxidil and or propecia

(if you want to keep what you have)

3- Start using Nizoral shampoo 2-3 x a week

This will allow you to do everything possible to keep what you have. Nothing else on the market will work to save you hair ..There is so much crap out there but stick to the BIG 3. You will see the other veterens on here will agree with this strategy for keeping what you have i the best manner.

Good luck

This is true. I know a guy who looked like his hair was thick when it was longer but as soon as he cut it short on top I couldn't believe how thin it was.

topnot,

Follow Mrjb's advice and also grow your hair longer on top to cover up the thinning until you can see if the meds help (Minoxidil, Propecia, etc.)

thanks for the responses ill take the advice of the vets and give it a try. after pouring over the pages of the forum for hours now and i thinking im going to go with the propecia option for now. the minox course seems to be very problematic and time consuming but after reading over the scientific data on finesteride and reading all the good stuff about it, it just seems to fit. so are there any places to get either proscar or propecia w/o the persription and if no what about generics. i found one thread that mentioned fincar(generic proscar) from a website called inhousepharmacy.com. this seems a little fishy becaues it come for india?? and i perfer to get things like this from th US. but has/does anyone use this method now and is it the real deal??

thanks

I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I'm not sold on the Nizoral stuff.

Isn't its effect largely theoretical. Has anyone done a study showing Nizoral slowing hair loss?

Every article I read speaks of Propecia, and Minoxidil, and occasionally together, but I only hear about Nizoral on sites like this.

Hi Mark

Nobody is saying that it regrows hair but studies have shown it has anti DHT properties. It has been proven to increase haircount.. You don't have to be sold on it but for me, it doesn't hurt to use it twice a week for optimal scalp health.. If you look at the veterans on here they will use 3 main items .. Propecia, minoxidil, and Nizoral.. Maybe some take a the supplement but that's it.. None of the other products have science to back it up.. Just do a search on it and see for yourself

Cheers mate

Hi Mark,

The thing with Nizoral is that it was also used by the patients in the client trials of Propecia, so if you are on Finasteride it is a good idea to use Nizoral as well.

Like John said it has some anti-DHT and good cleansing properties.

I think the biggest benefit is that it is an excellent anti-inflammatory/dandruff shampoo. I had most of my hairloss under Propecia in which my scalp was so itchy that I literally scratched a lot of my hair out. I believe that if I was also using Nizoral at the time my hair would be in a much better condition than it is now.

You should definitely be able to pick it up at almost any drug store (over the counter).
