Senior Member Rhodeman Posted April 17, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2007 Just curious if anybody took a long flight the day after surgery. I'm having 4000 [hopefully more] done tomorrow at H&W, and have a flight thru Chicago back to the East coast on the following day. Has anybody done this and had any problems? Senior Member hairbank Posted April 17, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2007 Hi Rhodeman- I received 3886 grafts from Dr. Wong last February 2006, flew in from Chicago one day, flew home the day after with no issues. They give you T3 for any pain but I don't believe I took any..............plus I had a 4 hour drive from Chicago home..........no big deal. You may want to try and drop by H&W early in the morning before you leave to get your first wash of the scalp. The do it very gently but it's a good start any getting blood and scabbing off the scalp. Hope this helps. Senior Member Rhodeman Posted April 17, 2007 Author Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2007 Thanks hairbank, appreciate the insight. You read about the procedures in the forum, but I hadn't seen much about the post-op travel, especially a long plane ride. I went in for pre-op consultation today & took a walk around the Granville Island area. They've got a lot of great little shops around here, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. The folks at H&W were as pleasant as I expected based upon everything I've read in this forum, & Dr Wong was super & very informative. I'm looking forward to tomorrow! Kumar,Dr Wong of Hasson & Wong is performing my HT, & I'll certainly let you know how things go. I flew all the way from New England to have Hasson & Wong perform my work after researching this site for a bit & seeing the results they've achieved. Since my donor supply is finite, I felt it important to select a quality doctor, and I happened to be impressed by the work they've done. Let's hope I soon have first hand knowledge! Senior Member pushing 40 Posted April 17, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2007 I had my sugery there almost one month ago; flew back the next day to Baltimore. Yes, the flight sucks because you'll be tired but unable to sleep because of the staples and fear of bumping grafted area. But its still worth it!!!!!!!! No issues besides that. I went "au-natural" meaning no hat or anything. A few funny stares but that was it.
Bill - Seemiller
Rhodeman, Welcome to the forums. Feel free to read all about my experience for my third surgery with Dr. Hasson - surgery day and flight. I flew from PA to Vancouver (7 hour total flight time) with connecting flights...ended up being a 10 hour day. By the end of the day I was very tired and grateful to be home. My only advice is...be extra careful getting in and out of planes NOT to bump your head! You will be in the best of hands! Bill
