In a 1500 graft transfer procedure to front top center and forward. Whats your guys out take on what numbers it would take to create some good density. 400-1's 800-2's 300-3's is what Im asking. I know no one is a doctor but whats your idea?

Well, the more total hairs is going to create more actual density theoretically; however there are so many factors to take into considersation; the smaller the area to work on the more density you will have; also hair characteristics (thick, thin, wavy, straight) and hair/skin contrast play a factor in the illusion of density; furthermore, aesthetics, plays a role; you want to use singles at the hairline to give it a soft, feathered look. Generally speaking 1500 grafts will not provide a lot of density unless it is for someone with minimal loss that wants to refine the hairline/temple area.

Good Point! I was a diffuse thinner on top but only from the middle on top to the front. I had some temple work done on the sides and point and a density pack on top. So my degree of loss was enough to definately want and need a HT but I dont think enough to where I needed 2k plus to cover (although the more the better icon_smile.gif

1,574 Follicular units (FUT)

114 - 3 hair grafts

881 - 2 hair grafts

579 - 1 hair grafts

Total Hairs transplanted: 2,683

I actually just had my procedure done last Friday. Thus far I am 150% satisfied. The pain swelling redness everything is so minimal. I would recommend him to anyone (so far). But how do those stats sound of my HT for me to start setting a future image of myself? icon_smile.gif

how do you know how many 1's 2's and 3's?

do doctors really count them?

What factors play a role in whether someone will have a lot of 1's 2's and 3's?

do you have pictures of the work done?

Often i hear when people are getting a HT - if they are going to get 1500 they end up with a few extra.

Why do drs usually throw in the extra ones?

Yes we really do count the number of grafts and the 1, 2, 3, 4 follicular units. The density is determined on a number of factors and depends on your hair color, caliber shape , curl etc. The width of your scalp and how we need to transition. There are ranges to the number of ones and two's. I customize each patient and consequently any numbers would be a generalization. You get a few extra grafts ( or in my case alot) because it is difficult to estimate with exact certainty the number of grafts removed from a donor strip. We are usually close, but rare that we get it just right. I usually try to take out more than what is expected for my patients. I never like to short my patients, and doctors do not like to endup underestimating.

I have had 3 procedures over the past 9 years, 2 with Bosley and 1 with MHR (all U.S.). My total transplant count was in the range of 5000 grafts. I have had very poor results in terms of density.

I am ready to shave my head and have seen photos showing what I should look like with ashaved head. I am happy with the look. I know that my donar scar will be visbible but I am ok with that. My question is regarding the liklihood that my recipient area will be detectable as having had grafts when shaved bald. I have no visible scarring there that I can see but am still concerned about this. Can you or anyone else offer some guidance/comfort so that I can proceed. This has been an enormous daily battle for me for many years. I have considered going to a hair transplant specialist and asking for some type of magnified examination of my recipient area, but other than than Im not sure how to know. I have hair up there but its too thin too really work with. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

HJR

hi hjr

sorry man that you haven`t got the result you wished for but reading these forums it would appear the two clinics you visited are amongst the worst the usa has to offer.you probably were suckered in by their fancy marketing and glossy brochures.

all may not be lost however as there are some great repair/touch up cases being performed by top drs.if you could post photos this will help enourmously to assist in the advice given to you regarding shaving down etc.

also are you taking any meds at the moment for your hairloss.

Bill may move this or advise you to start your own topic.

2 x strip ht`s with Norton,very poor results

1 x fue ht with DHI,very poor result

In my opinion, there is certainly a benefit when the doctor's provide their patient's with a hair count. It is also equally important to know one's hair characteristics and how it can contribute the the illusion of hair density.

The number of grafts/hairs needed will ultimately depend upon the balding area to be covered, the amount of native hair or natural hair left in the area, and hair characteristics.

To see more about the number of follicular unit grafts needed to create good hair coverage and an illusion of hair density, click here.

HJR,

I'm sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with MHR. Whether or not the recipient area will look natural when shaved will depend on how large the transplanted grafts were. Larger hair grafts may end up looking "pluggy" even when shaved. Of course, shavingit completely down to a zero clip will minimize this assuming there is no pitting, ridging, or cobblestoning.

As chucky stated, you may want to start your own thread to ensure you receive additional advice.

Bill
