Regular Member pokerbrat Posted July 24, 2007 Regular Member Share Posted July 24, 2007 hey all, i searched for this but couldnt find an exact answer in the forums. Does Proscar initially cause you to lose hair when you start it and then grow it back later?(or only in some people) Also, What part of the head does it grow the hair back most effectively? Or does it just maintain what you already have? How long do you have to take it for...months, years..etc Thanks for the help.
Senior Member gazzasgoin2 Posted July 24, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted July 24, 2007 Hi Pokerbrat, Proscar can initially cause shedding as weakend hairs are lost in the first few months. This is thought to be a good sign and the hairs should return stronger in the subsequent months. For 90% of people it will stabilize hairloss and a small percentage may see some re-growth. It works better for the crown and back of the head although in some instances it can also help the hairline. You should give it 12 months to determine if it is working for you. Hope that helps. Regular Member pokerbrat Posted July 24, 2007 Author Regular Member Share Posted July 24, 2007 yeah..that does help thanks..but i thought you take it to regrow your hair, not to just stabilize it? or am i mistaken?
Dr. Timothy Carman
Pokerbrat- The very least that propecia can do for you (in about 90% of men who take it) is that it will stop the progression of your hairloss. That in and of itself is a really big deal. Included in that group are also men who, in addition to maintaining their hair (stopping the progression of hairloss), saw various amounts of regrowth. Merck's (and others) research demonstrates that about 50-60% of men taking propecia see variable amounts of regrowth in addition to cessation of their hairloss. In general, I consider it an essential tool to consider when wishing to proactively deal with male pattern baldness hairloss. Hope that helps. Senior Member tisab Posted July 25, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted July 25, 2007 people aqtually recommend that you be on propecia/proscar for a year before you get an HT, so you know what hair of yours is stable and which are on the way out. also strengthens your hair against shockloss
