Senior Member mmhce Posted November 4, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 4, 2008 Hi everyone, I would like your comments on the amount of hair that you all think should be transplanted to the top and front to have an acceptable look (illusion of density) notwithstanding scalp laxity. You can take a look at my pictures at the following addresses: http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr293/mmhce/PICT0007.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr293/mmhce/PICT0012.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr293/mmhce/PICT0020.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr293/mmhce/PICT0030.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr293/mmhce/PICT0031.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr293/mmhce/PICT0032.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr293/mmhce/PICT0048.jpg Thank you for your comments. take care... Bill - Seemiller
mmhce, It really depends on what you want to accomplish. But assuming you are a candidate (which you'd have to confirm with a qualified hair transplant surgeon), I'd say a good 3000 grafts in the frontal half to 2/3rds (without touching the crown) would give you a very nice result. In my opinion, you still have a good bit of hair left in the crown and should consider Propecia and Rogaine in those areas to see if the hair thickens. Additionally, if you are not yet on Propecia or Rogaine, I'd consider using them for at least 6 months to a year before considering surgery. You may just experience a lot of thickening and minimize the amount of grafts you will need, or eliminate surgical desire altogether. Best wishes, Bill
Senior Member mmhce Posted November 5, 2008 Author Senior Member Share Posted November 5, 2008 Thanks for the response. By 3000 grafts, do you mean 6000 hairs (bearing in mind that the average graft may be 2 or 3 hair per follicular unit) or 3000 hairs? take care... Bill - Seemiller
mmhce, There are approximately 2.2 hairs to a follicular unit graft on average. So yes, approximately 6000+ hairs. As an additional tool, feel free to use our animated graft calculator. Remember though - only a qualified hair transplant surgeon can tell you whether or not you are a candidate and how many grafts you have, etc. Best wishes, Bill
Regular Member DeDom Posted November 5, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted November 5, 2008 Hey Bill, your animated graft calculator doesn't work. Sorry! I didn't get a total.
Bill - Seemiller
DeDom, It works. Just make sure you click "Skip Intro" and then follow the wizard. After clicking on areas of the scalp you want hair, click "calculate". I just tested it and it works fine. Please try again. If it still doesn't work for you, please tell me which web browser and version you are running - and also what operating system (Windows version or Mac version). Thanks, Bill
Regular Member DeDom Posted November 5, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted November 5, 2008 Sorry, Bill - it really doesn't work. I use Windows Explorer and Windows XP
Bill - Seemiller
DeDom, It's working for me on 2 separate computers. You said it wasn't calculating totals. Did you make sure to move the bar across the bottom from "Totally Bald" to the amount of hair you desire? If you don't, the totals won't calculate as you suggested. Thanks, Bill
Senior Member MikeTheDane Posted November 7, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted November 7, 2008 While i am no expert, i believe that 2k grafts on the front and propecia/regaine for the crown should give some very nice results. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11/04-07 - 800-1600 ish grafts - danish clinic - poor results 12/02-08 - 2764 grafts - Dr. Devroye - good result but needs hairline density 03/12-10 - 1429 grafts - Dr. Mohmand - result pending Feel free to visit my picture thread My Hair Transplant Photos - Surgery with Dr. Devroye Young lads below 25 unite!
