Senior Member PLEASE GROW PLEASE Posted April 4, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted April 4, 2007 Im 3 weeks out from my 3rd surgery and was wondering how long do most people wait to start lifting again. After my 2nd surgery I started after 3 weeks and my scar streched pretty wide. Is it the bending over and lifting the weight up the reason or some extra pressure? Senior Member Gorpy Posted April 5, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted April 5, 2007 If you lift, then you know that any kind of strain during a lift will cause muscles all over your body to flex, even in the neck/back of head area. So yes, you can get a bit of a pull on the scalp. I don't think it is just the bending over or looking down that does it, but a general tension brought on by the strain of lifting. I have come up with a general personal guideline that I think makes sense. I say take a look at your scar. Has the redness/pinkness faded yet. The fading of the redness/pinkness is a sign of healing. When most of the visible color has gone from it, it is probably safe to start lifting again. There is still much more internal healing to do, but at least at that point, much progress has been made. Keep in mind, it will probably be months before the color fades. ____________ 2700 Total Grafts w/ Keene 9/28/05 663 one's = 663 1116 two's = 2232 721 three's = 2163 200 four's = 800 Hair Count = 5858 1000 Total Grafts w/Keene 2/08/07 Mostly combined FU's for 2600+ hairs My Photo Album See me at Dr. Keene's Gallery
Senior Member hairbank Posted April 5, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted April 5, 2007 Difficult to tell ! I agree with Gorpy in that it is the tension caused by straining with any exercise that may affect your scar if it's not healed. I believe I waited a little over 1 month before resuming my routine. Even at that point, I believe you should probably start with a less intense workout and build from there. Senior Member MrJobi Posted April 5, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted April 5, 2007 Hi My doctors guidelines say it's ok to life but not heavy. If you have sritch form, you should not strech it but that is difficult for people to do. I was lifting light 2 weeks after without any problem. You guys hit it on the head though, you cannot place undue tention on the area. Bill - Seemiller
Please grow please, Looks like my brothers above pretty much answered it..but I thought I'd add my two cents. I never had a problem with scar stretching and started lifting soon after my surgeries...BUT, as stated above...start light and then progessively but slowly go back to normal lifting. In all truthfulness, I didn't start doing any flat bench press (or any heavy lifting on my back or with my legs) until 3 months. That's not to say I didn't work out those muscle groups...I just went lighter and used machines that helped me with the technique. Ultimately, you don't want to strain too hard for awhile. Glad we could help. Cheers, Bill
