Regular Member tooyoung Posted December 2, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted December 2, 2008 The popular method to save money is cutting Proscar into 4ths. How do you know that the 4ths have an even amount of the active ingrediant finasteride in them? Also, would a generic pill possibly not disperse the finasteride evenly? Bill - Seemiller
tooyoung, You don't. It's my understanding that the finasteride isn't evenly distributed in the pill. So some days you may be getting less than 1.25mg and other days you may be getting more. However, many hair restoration physicians feel that it's just as safe and effective as Propecia if you take 1/4 a day, because the dosage over the 4 day period is close to that as when you are taking Propecia. Best wishes, Bill
