  1. The popular method to save money is cutting Proscar into 4ths. How do you know that the 4ths have an even amount of the active ingrediant finasteride in them? Also, would a generic pill possibly not disperse the finasteride evenly?

  3. yes. i bought it from a legit NYC pharmacy. The reason I bought the generic is because it is covered by my insurance.
  4. I started Propecia and Rogaine about 7 months ago. Around the 5 month mark I actually noticed my hair to thicken up on top towards the temples. I was also using Revita about 5 times a week. About 2 months ago I switched to a Proscar generic bought at a Duane Reade pharmacy. About 1 month ago I noticed another shed started and it seems to be dieing down now. I also stopped using Revita and switched to normal shampoo. My question is, has anyone began on Propecia, saw improvement, the switched to Proscar generic and seen a slight reversal? Or is this just one of the Finasteride sheds that happens throughout the first year Ive heard about? Or, is there a chance that this is due to stopping Revita? Since most of the Proscar pill is filler, how do you know by splitting the pill in fourths that you get an even amount? Im debating switching back to my first regiment of propecia, revita, rogaine (which i havent stopped). This regiment is very expensive though. PLease help, thanks

  6. Proscar, once split into the proper proportions is the same as a propecia tablet. Proscar comes in 5mg pills, which you split into 4 giving you 1.25mg of finasteride (active ingrediant in both medications). Propecia contains 1mg of finasteride. When used this way, Proscar is much more affordable and produces the same result as propecia so definitely look into that. Finasteride is most effective in the crown area, which it sounds like you're trying to preserve so i do not recommend just stopping the medication. Rogaine plus finasteride is your best non-surgical method to retain what you have on your crown and possibly regrow some. Good luck PS I've read on this forum that Provillus is crap. I think its main ingrediant is Saw Palmetto, which is a weak DHT blocker at best.
  7. Question for everyone: Genetics cause MPB because your genes dictate whether your hair is negatively affected by DHT. Correct? Also, DHT levels result from excess Testosterone being converted to the chemical DHT. So, isn't it true that someone who stimulates large amounts of testosterone through heavy and consistent weight lifting, AND whose hair is genetically susceptible to DHT, be at a higher risk to develop MPB and at a younger age? I'm not saying just lifting weights will cause MPB. I'm saying people (most men) who will at one point be affected by MPB in their lives; lose more hair at a younger age if they lift heavy weights than if they don't?
  8. I'm a blonde, mostly light blonde, with age it has gotten slightly darker. I was wondering if you are a light blonde and gotten a HT, could you share pics with me? Post and pre-op would be very helpful. I'm not at that point yet, but it would be interesting to see what might be down the road. I've heard blondes make great HT candidates because of the contrast between hair and scalp. However, most blondes, myself included, have naturally thin hair diameter. So if you're blonde and went under the knife, or if you know of any members, please let me know. Thanks

  10. No problem John, glad to help. It's funny, I began using this site as strictly a resource, but you find helping others is actually self satisfying as well. The search tool on this forum is great. Almost any question you have has been asked by someone on this forum. My main advice is to get on finasteride asap. I can't tell you how many threads I've seen where members write "my only regret is not getting on finasteride earlier." For some, the drug is so effective they never have to get surgery. Of course, those are the rarer cases, but still, there is hope! However, there is a risk of side effects so take note. From what i've heard though, these are rare and reversible. I'm 3 months in and no sides. Also, I'm hoping to halt the loss with propecia until a better alternative is available down the road. There are currently hair cloning trials being done in the UK i believe with very positive results thus far. With the money us "victims" poor into hair restoration every year, there's no doubt these alternatives are on their way in the future.
  11. No vitamins will help against male pattern baldness. Unfortunately, the "all natural/herbal/miracle cures" are all BS. Other than surgery you have the "big 3"; Finasteride, Minoxidil (rogaine), and Ketoconazole (various shampoos). From what I've read, they are most effective in that order. The chemical DHT cause baldness by shrinking hair folicles. Finasteride lowers DHT in the human body, Ketoconazole helps block DHT in the scalp, and rogaine helps stimulate hair growth. Just keep researching this forum, it is by far the best resource and has helped myself and others immensely. It now even has regular posts by some of the top hair restoration doctors in the world, so read up. The reason everyone recommends finasteride is because it works for most people. Like said above, it helps keep/strengthen what hair you have. Currently, hair transplants cannot achieve natural density, they just help make the scalp appear as close to natural as possible. Finasteride is recommended after surgery to keep the existing hair you have, so in combination with the transplanted hair, it appears more natural. This saves you from more surgeries as more of your natural hair disappears. Hope this helps, good luck
  12. For some it works on the front, for others it doesn't. You won't know until you try it and everyone reacts to the drug differently. There are people on this forum who have had amazing results, even in the hair line. I too have front thinning, and got on finasteride about 3 months ago along with Minoxidil (rogaine). I think we can all agree that has been proven to be the best 1-2 punch against MPB minus surgery. Only thing is both are a lifetime commitment if you want to keep your hair (again minus surgery). It's too soon to judge my results. I'm giving the drugs at least one year. Good luck
  13. Based on the amount of money that can be made with a hair loss cure, I guarantee they're moving as quickly as possible. I mean, they could get rich just charging people to be part of the trials.
  14. I'm pretty sure it varies per person. I've seen threads of guys on it for 15 years who claim it has stopped their loss. I've also seen threads of guys who claim their hair loss re-started after being on it for only 5 years. Like any other drug, there is no way to know for sure if it will be effective, the degree of effectiveness, or how long it will be effective. I'm 25 and have been on it for close to 3 months. I plan on being on it for the long haul, or until hair cloning gets approved hopefully in the next 5-10 years!
  15. I'm 25 and have been on Rogaine and Propecia 3 months. I too noticed diffuse thinning from the crown to the front, so I immediately wanted to do something about it. From what I've researched and been told, these two are the key to stopping or slowing down loss. It also seems the younger you are, the more likely these drugs are to work, and the more effective they will be. Some mid 20's patients even saw noticeable REGROWTH. It's too early to tell for me, but I'm remaining optimistic. You should note, the Propecia sexual sides are reversible. So if you notice them, then stop and you'll be fine within a few weeks. The odds of the drug working are high. So, it was worth the risk for me and at this point, I haven't noticed any side effects (knock on wood(no pun intended)). If you still aren't sold, ask your doctor. Good luck
