  1. my right side is much worse than my left side in the temples. i would assume that one side would catch up to the other evenutally
  2. john: unfortunately, i don't have access to family history since i was adopted. i hope things will start to settle down up there. i see your point about waiting. hm or whatever miracle cure may be 10 years away. i would rather just get it over with now i understand that hm is taking a sample of 100 or so hairs and creating (x) cells that they implant via a needle. with one sample you can have as many as you need. i think quality and direction would be the biggest issue
  3. oh, i would stay on propecia, even with an ht. hairloss moves onward and, well, upward unless it's impeded with something. luckily i haven't had any sides with the medication. i don't think hm is a pipe dream so much anymore. like htown said, it's gaining momentum. hopefully everyone will know where it stands by this time next year after some more trials are done. call me an optimist
  4. i wrote my age in the first post actually, i'm 35 now. i think it's about the right age to start looking into things. definitely DON'T want a huge scar though. i'm really getting excited about this HM talk and wondering if i should hold out. ahhhhh, decisions i definitely appreciate all the advice...this place is like cheap therapy
  5. thanks for the advice. trust me, i'm not looking to rush into anything. i've been reading everything i can get my hands...err...eyes on. i'm giving meds a year and then making my decision. i'm in total agreement about future loss; in fact, that's my biggest concern regarding having something done at this stage. maybe i'll get a little worse, maybe i'll get a lot worse....it's like rolling dice! who knows, maybe that hm stuff will work and i can avoid an HT
  6. i've been thinkin' about tryin' the rogaine foam on my temples to see if i can get any growth. thoughts, anyone??
  7. that third pic was hilarious. weird thing is, i never had those side temple areas and always wanted them. i'm worried, too, about having an unnatural island in the middle should i lose more O_O
  8. thanks for the advice. i think that 1500 mark was mainly for the sides and mostly avoiding the middle area. they were concerned with shock loss in the middle because i still have high density there, but it's mostly miniatured. i'm certainly going to go for more opinions before i decide anything.
  9. well, it's been a little over 2 months on propecia. i've noticed less hairs around everywhere, but the front seems thinner...shedding? hope it's working. i had a consult with a prominent atlanta dr.(who i can't mention on this website...) today since i'm like 15 minutes away. it went pretty well. they said i could get by with around 1500 at 40-50 density around the temples and lightly hit the middle hairline(trying to avoid shock and be conservative). i'm really considering them now just for the fit/fue and not wanting a big ol' scar they said i had some light miniaturization on the top, but at the rate i'm going, it would probably be a long time before that made an impact. that worried me a bit
  10. yeah, i've read about the ups and downs of shedding. no pain, no gain, right?
  11. i don't think i've gotten to the shedding phase which has me a little worried. good luck with your procedure . who are you going with? i'm looking into hasson & wong or shapiro from my current research
  12. well, i've been on propecia for over a month now. i still notice hairs all over, but my head no longer is itching like crazy. hopefully it's doing something positive
  13. oh, i'm not expecting to grow anything back. i'm just hoping i can slow/stop anything further and see later on if a ht is reasonable
  14. thanks for the reassurance. i know i'm better off than some people around here, but you never know what the future holds. to be continued dot dot dot
  15. ok, i started propecia on friday. the doc that prescribed the P took pics and seemed to think i would just recede in the front based on my characteristics. wish me luck
  16. thanks, friend. i'm definitely not looking to rush into anything with a ht. my plan is to try the drugs for a year and see how things work out. i had been considering dr. griffin in atlanta since i'm from there. does propecia/proscar's effectiveness dissipate over time?
  17. i'm 34 and started thinning when i was around 21. i have pretty fine hair and a naturally high hairline. i don't think i have any loss other than the front and am considering a transplant since it's starting to show through in the front. i am going to start on propecia/proscar this week. i'm worried that a transplant would make things worse with the "shock loss" i've been reading about though. please excuse the funky hair look
