  1. This is really odd. I have tested it on a few platforms, mobile and desktop and have not see this type of error as yet. I will be testing it in a few other browsers and operating systems to see if I can replicate it.

Thanks to all for providing any additional feedback.

  2. Hi all,

We have looked at the creation of a Wiki site in the past and it certainly does have it's merits. When a resource like this is published, it may also become the target of spam, as we have just seen - I just deleted and removed a user that posted a whole lot of spam links.

While it is a great idea, it does take up a huge amount of time and resource to manage, so that it is truly a useful site. We can certainly take are-look at the possibility and look at how the process will be managed and supported.

  3. I have used an iPod to see if I can add a post and the editor does appear fine.

If other members can respond using some form of mobile device and let us know if they experience any issues, that would really help us develop the forum.

I do see a number of users have read this post and would like to encourage our members to add some comments about the way they access the forum and how important it is for you to be able to use a mobile device, like a smart phone, or any other other device for that matter.

  4. Doing a quick searc h on Polysorbate 80, I found that it is really used as an emulsifier and does not appear to have any relationship with topical treatments.

"Polysorbate 80 is frequently used for pharmaceutical formulations as an emulsifier, solubilizer and stabilizer. Improving its characteristics (color, odor, oxidation stability, cytotoxicity and hemolysis) by ultra-pure Polysorbate 80(HX)TM is very suitable for pharmaceutical application."

More information can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polysorbate_80

  5. There are also additional privacy setting all users can change, so that they can only get messages, or have users comment on their profiles, if they are "friends". This may involve a few fake "Friendship Requests" but it will certainly keep out the "love seekers".

We have beefed up the registration process, but we do realize that there are some relentless spammers out there that go through the whole process and are "real" people. What they look like, is anybody's guess, but they do tend to target Social sites.

Today, there were more of these that have been disabled and some of our members will have seen comments on their blogs from these "Russian Bride" types. Social sites, like this one, do have settings that all users are able to change to reduce (almost eliminate) this type of action, but then it's up to the users to pay careful attention to how they set up their "Privacy" settings.

While your profiles are visible to all and anyone that visits the site, you are able to change who can comment, on your blog entries, send you PM's etc.

Managing your privacy will certainly go a long way to reducing spammers.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Well, seeing that I am in the host country, it's been quite a ride here. SA have managed to get a draw in their first game, but we shall see what happens tonight, when they play Uruguay..

  7. Hi guys,

Just did a quick "Google" on "Dr Madhu Prasad" and one of the forum threads is way up there in the results. If you search for "Dr. Pathuri Madhu" there are also plenty in the top 10 from the forum.

This already means that many potential clients in India, who do a bit of research, on this doctor, will arrive at this forum (and topic) rather quickly.

Interestingly enough the next most popular source of visits to the HTN and other sites, first is the US, is from India, so there must be a lot of potential clients out there, looking for a good hair transplant surgeon.

Just a few comments that may defuse some of the doubters out there.

  8. Hi all,

The scripts for the uploading of images has been updated and we should not see this issue happen again. I suspect that these 2 blogs were updated at exactly the same time, using the same image names and this caused the files to be as the same, for both blogs.

The changes to the upload scripts, will prevent this from happening in the future.

  9. Hi Guys,

This is a rather strange occurrence. The image upload scripts do first check to see if there is an image of the same name and make the newly uploaded file name "unique", by adding an underscore and a number to the end of the file name.

All the blog images are stored in a directory on the server and only the file name is added to the "blogger's" profile information.

Even when a blogger replaces an image, the original file is then deleted, by referencing the file name stored in their profile and the new file name is then unique.

I suppose the only way that this type of thing could occur, is if two users update at exactly the same time and the image file names are identical. Though the chances of this happening are so slight, I am surprised that this did happen.

I will have another look at the scripts and see if there is any improvement I can make to ensure that this will not be able to happen again.

  10. M&M and all other blog authors, I have removed the facility to add comments to the journal entries and also deleted all the spam comments that appeared there.

The best way to control this, is to disallow any HTML within the comment area and this includes any links whatsoever.

I will also change the comment proccess, so that any comment will have some from of human user verification (CAPTCHA) and added through a pop up, rather than directly on the page. This will also reduce the ability of spam bots posting tons of junk into the journal entry area.

    Hope this helps.

    Hans

  11. OK, I am in the proccess of deleting all these comment spam messages in the blog area.

I guess the best way to try and fight this problem, is to modify the way comments are added and prevent mass commenting spamming the sites.

  12. Here's the thing.. Given that this is a very "real" community and is probably one of the most accessable resources on the Internet, as far as comments, suggestions, commendations etc. goes, I see little, if any, benefit from this new site.

This - and a handfull of others - site has real influence over where potential patients go for treatment, or simply get some good advice. I have seen many sites pop up to try and emulate what the Hair Transplant Network (and the Coalition) has succeeded in doing - empowering and educating potential patients.

Some of them have been blatent replicas, others have loosely disguised themselves as psuedo "membership clubs" - none of them have really embraced the community as has this site and it's affiliated sites.

Not many of the members know me, some do - quite well - and I have been involved with the creating of Pat's sites since 2001, when it was really a showcase of how pleased (that's putting it mildly) he was with his hair transplant by Dr. Ron Shapiro. I won't bore you with the details of the progression, but what exists today is something that Pat is hugely proud of and I also have a sense of "ownership" when I see how many people have actively participated in the "family" of sites that know exist.

There may be some members of this "family" that have choosen to belong to this new site, however, they are very much still part of things here and it is really time that will tell how much influence the "hair loss doctors list" will have in this field.

I say let them stay on here and not put pressure on them. I think that they will very soon see that they will enjoy far greater results by being part of THIS family than by joining some other.

Interestingly, Dr Goertz was a member of the Hair Transplant Network some time back, but have no recollection as to why he no longer is a member, must be something that someone said at some stage.

Enjoy what you have for as long as you can.

    Hans
