  1. It's a hard one stamos

I'm a Rahal patient at 2.5 Months, so as I said I'm in the worst phase. I don#t know what my result will be but I know I went to one of the best.

When you go to a strange land for a HT you need more than just a good Doctor, you need an environment that you feel comfortable in, after the operation and during the days you have to spend in the hotel. You don't want to be stared at our laughed at with your blue operation hat

What I liked about Rahal and Ottawa was everybody was friendly, knew the score and couldn't have cared less. You get the same Taxi driver who takes you to the Clinic for your daily check ups. I don't know what it's like with Shapiro or Hasson and Wong, but with Rahal I felt I was with friends from the airport to the hotel, the surgery and the way back to Munich. All the Canadians made it so easy for me. If the winter wasn't so bad I'd move there

  2. I wonder if we place too much on hair

When I was in my early 30s every women I walked past seemed to react in some way. Now in my early 40s none of them really seem to and my hair loss was never as bad as many guys before my OP. Time goes on...Funnily enough in the worst "Doldrums" phase after the OP I've been seeing a very special woman. And the lies I've told hear abount the reasons for my strange hairline

I think its a variety of things. I just last week asked a man who was almost a year out, to go back on the forums and describe his experience. He found me through the forums when I just started using them and I know that he blogged a bit in the early recovery phase.

I also know that he is happy, as he emailed me and asked if I wanted to see him as he was surprised at the result in under a year(which will only get better over the next 4 months or so).

So when I asked him if he would go back on the sites he told me "maybe in a few years when and if I need some more work", but that now he doesn't feel like he has any reason to go on the sites. Says his free time is now occupied by all kinds of activities, like basketball, swimming and dating. I told him that while I might take some credit for him having more confidence and dating more, that the other activities weren't the result of his hair. He disagreed, saying that his increase in confidence is allowing him to pursue things he hadn't done in years. I told him THAT is exactly the Cinderella story I wanted him to share online...not just for my practice's benefit, but also for the benefit of some guys out there who are trying to decide if they want to move forward.

He said he appreciated the work, but had "moved on" from the hair forums.

That may or may not be representative of why folks quit the sites, but I would guess it is some factor for many folks.

I used to post on some guitar sites when I was getting back into guitar playing, to get tips etc. Then after a few months I found that it was more fun to play than post. Same deal with hair sites I imagine.

None of us really want to be here

We post our experiences and concerns, because we seek help and support. When we get through it we'd rather forget we went throught it.

Does anyone go back to the Doctor to thank him for the medication that got us over the flu?

I'll post my results to the end but as most I'd rather not have had to consider the issue of hair loss at all

  4. Hi All

I had a comment on my blog that only half of the transplanted grafts actually grow

I had 2886 with Dr Rahal on the 27th of August so I'm very much in the doldrums and not really expecting much until month four, though I can see it starting to firm up.

I'd be grateful for comments from Doctors and patients on this statement, how many of your transplanted grafts do you feel actually came in, and what is the opinion of doctors on this issue.

I still have full confidence to my Doc and it's early days. I still have a lot of hair, but I'd expect a better than 50% yield.

Thanks in advance for the inputs

PS Bill if this was a FAQ apologies I didn't find it

  5. Hi I'm a two months and have not had a hair cut I can cover the recipient site with my existing har and do so when I leave the house. I'm still using baby shampoo and trying to be careful. But I have to dry my hair in the morning with a towel which means rubbing the recipent site. I am still losing graft at two months and I'm wondering if I'm causing damage. I have been told after fourteen days the grafts are firm, I'm begining to wonder if I might be better of buzzing down. I cant wear a hat in my job
