  1. Hey HLBD This all sounds to good to be true. But it is consistent with a lot of the medical breakthroughs of late. Considering all the progress that has been made through the study of stem cells and a far more evolved understanding of the human genome, it would seem that we are in the midst of scientific revolution. With the long and promised and predicted availability of hair multiplication, its hard not to be a little skeptical about curis having a product in as soon as 5 years. This curis stuff came to me completely out of the blue last week. In saying that though, the curis approach sounds more practical. Instead of growing brand new stem cells and randomly injecting stemcells in a somewhat haphazard way for an unknown level of success. The curis approach while it is a bit mind-f**k, it just seems like a better idea. It seems easier to administer and sounds like a more comprehensive way of achieving an overall result. But it yields some potentially serious health risks. It is something i ll watch with great interest. Just a question though. Where do you get all this information from. You mentioned before that you consulted some curis staff members. But are there any scientific sources on the net you could refer me to regarding the (Hedgehog signaling pathway) work of curis. Their website and press releases talk more of money then the science. Id like to do my own research.
  2. Thanks HLBD, That cleared up a lot of my queries. It all sounds logical. I always thought that DHT killed the follicles eventually. At least thats what some flippin trichologist told me. Ill keep a close eye on all this. Who knows, it could be a reality before hair multiplication. If it does become a viable cure to baldness, it would put all of the current hair loss products and treatments out of busness. The hair loss industry is a corporate monster.Billions would be lost. I ve no doubt that in protecting it collective interests, it would fight back. Perhaps even buy the patent on the product out so nobody could sell it or acquire it. This is what could have happened to that product from the 90's, what was it called, RU 48871. Apparently the nearest thing to a cure for MPB ever developed/discovered and now its sitting on a shelf in a lab in France. It was a substance that would attach itself to the hair follicle and block out DHT entirely. There were some technical problems with the solution and the clinic developing the product in France shut down. From what i heard research ended there.
  3. Hey guys, I know im putting this question on the wrong section of the forum. I read in another section of the forum about how a company in cambridge calle "Curis" are developing a hair loss treatment along with tissue regeneration and skin cancer treatments utilising what they call the "Hedgehog signaling pathways". Currently they are approaching the human testing trials and there seems to be as much enthusiasm and investment as hair multiplication. They grew hair on bald mice within 13 days apparantly. The only thing is they don't say what the treatment actually does. Is it supposed to use this alleged hedgehog pathway signaling to create new hair follicles or Stimulate or maintain hair that has remained to the same effect as rogaine or propecia. Intercytex and alderans claim to be decades away from a treatment that can signal the hair loss genes to obey their commands. This however sounds like what Curis claim to be developing now. Im in work, the Boss is out and im bored. Does anybody wanna chat?

  5. Hey Kramer, Im not sure from reading these (curis) articles if i fully understand. If this product is available will it function as a hair loss prevention drug, alongside reviving shrunken hair follicles, like rogaine of propecia would. Or will it also have the ability to trigger the formation of new follicles alongside stoppping further hair loss. The word "regeneration" was used in one of the articles. Their press releases tend to be very technical and focus a lot more on the science then the subsequent result of the treatment. Whats strange is the fact that there is very little of this drug hyped around the net. If you type in the word curis you'll find loads. i only heard of it for the first time on this site today. Whereas if you google hairloss, you'll find unlimited references to rogaine propecia, hair cloning, hair transplants. Its just odd.
  6. I read a posting there yesterday from intercytex. They claim that the direction of new hair growth should be the same as it would occur naturally. There are different theories and i heard the growth in the mice hair tha was tested on was blotchy. In regard to stem cells. I saw on the news fiur articles. With stem cells they can grow part of a human heart. In three years this particular research team reckon that that they can grow a whole heart from stem cells. New Stem cell breakthroughs have provided an alternative to diabetics requiring insulin injections. In India a woman who was paralised was treated with stem cells and regained mobility in both her legs. This is all stuff that was on the news last week alone. It would seem to me that progress is being made in stem cells research overall. Thing s are happening fast. It stands to reason that if they can grow a heart in three years, a vital and perhaps one of the most complicated organs in the body, they will sure as hell be able to grow hair follicles on someones head. Im optomistic. I think they'll crack the problems in a few years. It may be ten years before it becomes a commercial reality, or less. Intercytex have been researching stem cells for 40 years. This isn't a new gymic to them like it probably is to Bosley. I am sceptical in some ways also but there is scientific eveidence to suggest that it will happen. I don't think furthermore that one can compare the development of stem cell research to the evolution of hair transplantation. Hair transplantation is surgery that involves skill and took years to perfect it as a craft and procedure. Almost like a form of horticulture, whereby taking a tree from a rainforest in south America, digging up its roots, driving it in a truck, flying it to Holland, and planting it on a Beach. From what i have read, this process involving stem cells is a treatment, or a type of medicine that will be injected into the scalp.
  7. Hey Guys, The Body Shop in Dublin offer the exact same treatment as is shown on the BBC video clip of Advanced Hair Studios. Laser treatment to unblock the follicles/Minoxidil Pill for rest of natural life/Special Shampoo. The Body Shop are a company that operate in the UK and recently Ireland and offer various body treatments. Lipo, god knows what else. I did a consultation two years ago and the treatment sounded rediculas. Then the consultant offered to do a hair transplant. No Thanks. They advertise fairly often in Irish Newspapers. Thet threw all the usual lines at me for instance. "If you came to us even two years ago we could have done loads more for your hairline" "If you don't get this soon your hairline will be gone within a few months" "We got this super new laser device flown in from America" No Thanks. Be Warned
  8. Hey, I recommend you have a look at the Intercytex website. They are in phase 2 trials of hair multiplication. It all sounds very futuristic. Apparantly phase 2 (Human Trials) trials end in December this year. Then Phase 3 trials (Human Trials) run in 2008. If they are successful in Phase 3 trials, the say that they will apply for an FDA approval and there will be a commercial hair cloning procedure/service/product available within a few years. It usually takes 5 years to attain FDA approval. 2012? Intercytex say on their website there will be a product in 3 years from now. I'll believe it when i see it. Although i wouldn't be complaining. At All. What is encouraging is that the science is getting to grips with this. You ve gotta ask yourself though When it comes out, do you wanna be one of the first people to use it. Even if it gets approval, it'll be years before anyone can say, the cloned hair lasts your whole life. No one knows if this cloning technology will cause cancer, what the hair quality will be like in mass production.
  9. Ms.Nguyen, I hope it all works out for you. I just want to emphasise the point though that getting a hair transplant is something you have to really really really research. There are a lot of cowboys out there, people with no ethics that just want your money. The surgeons that i mentioned, i have never met in person, furthermore, i have never seen any of their patients in person, only seen online. All the research i've done do far is internet based. They all appear pretty good. But at this stage it is an educated type of speculation. The next step for me is to meet patients and see up close if the doctors work is actually as good as it appears in the photographs that appear on my laptop screen when i log on. Before you make a decision, i would urge you to do the same. Take your time. Don't let location be a factor. This hair transplant is something you'll have to live with. If it ends up costing an extra couple of thousand dollars for accomodation and a flight, its gonna be worth it. This could be one of the most important decisions you'll make. Do research.
  10. Hey, Im fairly new to the site myself. I am myself debating whether or not to have a hair transplant. There are far far better people who log on this site who can advise you and talk from experience. From what i can gather myself, the risks are relatively low if you choose the right hair transplant surgeon. There are many to choose from world wide but only a hand full of really good ones. They operate mainly in the US. They are featured as coalition members on this website. It is important to be careful choosing the correct surgeon for your particular problem. Each surgeon has a different style and look they go for in a hair transplant. The good news is that seeing as you are a girl (i think..)and the hair loss is a result of a piece of skin removed means you won't loose any more hair. That means if you get a hair transplant to fix that patch you mentioned,You will never have to worry about getting a hair transplant again. For men once you have one transplant, then a second and possibly a third is obligatory. Otherwise the previously transplanted hair will look un-natural as the surrounding hair eventually falls out. In any transplant there are 2 possible risks 1)The transplant will look un-natural 2)You could be left with a scar where the skin was removed from the back of the head from which the hair to be transplanted comes from. With the good surgeon these risks are minimised substantially. A good hair transplant surgeon can fill in a bald area or replace a hairline which looks even better then the real thing. If i where you i would look at/Google Dr. Epstein: facial plastic surgeon. from what i have researced, the donor scarring among his patients is undetectable. also look at Dr. Shapiro, Dr. Hasson & Dr. Wong and DR. Feller. Note filling in a blank spot on the scalp is far easier then a hairline. Any of the surgeons i've mentioned would wizz through it. These days a hair transplant is a tried and tested art. It has become very refined in the past number of years and done by good surgeon, it can be great. No one has ever lost there life from a hair transplant that i know of. The Surgeons i have mentioned are very well respected. Dr. Epstein as you will see on his site has featured in Vogue magazine along with about ten others you'll on his website. One final point. There is another option. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)can be done. This is simply removing hair follicular unit (follicles) individually with a tool without taking a strip of skin. This is far more expensive. See Dr. Feller and Dr. Epstein and Dr. Bernsteins website. Id say go for it.
  11. Thanks for the response guys, Theres a lot there to digest. There sure is a lot of good work out there. Its encouraging to say the least. Spex, ive seen your blog/web page on dr fellers website. Its good. At some stage i will take you up on your offer for a consultation in the UK.
  12. Hey all, Im doin a lot of reading of Surgeons Websites, Forums, etc. Theres 4 people who look very interesting. Namely Epstein, Feller, Shapiro, Hasson & Wong. I am a bit boggled though. Epstein is very upfront about his results, particularly in regard to pictures of the donor area which he shows on his site and are available on the forums. There is very little long term scarring judging by the images. Plus he seems to have an enormous amount of respect among the media and conmetics field and likewise among his patients. But the hairline work that he shows pictures of on his website are not nearly as impressive as shapiro, hasson & wong or feller. Why is this. Is this a somewhat minimal approach to hair density down to medical ethics?ie not being greedy in case damage is done to the patient. I suppose, overall my real question is who is the best for hairline work and also the most careful about leaving the most minimal level of donor area scarring. Epstein being a plastic surgeon seems like a safe option. But the beast in me also wants a dence forest of hair growin on my scalp. Its obvious that the more hair you extract, then the bigger the scar or perhaps the risk of scarring. W Any Thoughts? Your old mucker Badger

  14. Hey Mick, I understand what its like Believe me. The first time anyone someone told me i was going bald was when i was twenty two, im twenty nine now. Considering getting a HT. After just finishing college i cannot afford one for a while. I ve always played in a band and still do. Its not nice loosing hair at all. It s not the end of the world though. Look at the edge. It won't ruin your career. Shit, if ozzy can still sell records, theres hope. The irony for me however is that most of the people who made those snide remarks back when i started receeding are beginning to lose it now themselves. REVENGE. I saw a tricologist a couple of years ago and he recommended against propecia. There is a chance it will make you sterile. Many people, from what i have read do not experience any side affects. Some of course do. The last thing you want a bald head, man boobs, and an erection problem. This is just shit i ve read about on line. Make your own decision. But this is what ive heard. In ten years who knows where the technology could be. These days i have a sense of humour about my hair. Thats really because of the options that exist in hair transplantation. While your studying you can do proper substantial research. Start now. Be positive. Look at it as a challenge. Watch out for the flim flam artists on line. theres a lot of em.
  15. Hey Guys, Just a quick query. Does anybody know of any good medical journals relating to HT Surgery. I wouldn't mind subscribing to one or more. All my research so far has been electronic. Id like to reference something physical. Any suggestions, let us know.

  17. Hey, I tried the Rogaine for about a year. It says on the the instructions that after two weeks, the user will experience some amount of shedding. This is normal. The reason they give is because the hair changes from one growth phase to another. They used more techncal lingo then that of course. After a while it subsides. Unfortunately i couldn't see any results. Some people do apparantly. Depends on the individual. The reason i stopped using it was because i got a scalp infection. The skin broke out in spots and wouldn't. This happened when i was on holidays in Eastern Europe. I wore a baseball cap a lot because of the sun. Maybe that was the reason i got an infection. Then again i could be allergic.
  18. Thanks Bill, I noticed that repeat posting you mentioned. Very Fishy indeed. I agree with you totally in what you say.....Peace Out
  19. Hey Chucky, Sorry to hear your bad news. The more i hear about Dhi the more disillusioned i become. I ve been looking at feller, shapiro, bernsteins and eipstein s websites. Id say 2% of the reviews about Dhi have been positive. Im not gonna go there with those variables full stop. What was your beef with them. I ve read about people who have gone there and only 10% of the transplanted hairs actually grew. That seems to be the real issue with them. Poor growth. From what i ve read. I originally posted this thread a month ago. I ve learnt and researched a lot since then.
  20. Hey Guys, IXM, that (ht) looks pretty damn good. Looks like a top job. Congratulations. Thanks for sharing the Pics and information. You must be thrilled. Im still researching DHI myself. Have you noticed though the amount of complaints there have been about DHI. On this and other forums, particularly (hairlosshelp.com). They seem to either get the HT perfect with some people or screw up on others. Is this something you noticed in the research you did leading up to your hair transplant. Im not sold however on the idea of a strip procedure. Not yet anyway. Thats why im sort of analysing DHI. More accurately the FIT procedure. Thanks Badger
  21. Hey fit2btide, Im new to the site as well. I haven't had a HT yet, i haven't consulted any coalition members yet. But i appreciate how hard it is to make a decision. God i know. Its not something to be taken lightly. I can just imagine myself gettin laughed at by my mates, walkin into the pub with a bad ht job. I've been logging on to this forum for months. I have to say that this forum has been far more informative then any wishy-washy tricologist/ consultant, or some surgeons flowery pr scheme. I ve met and consulted people that i don't trust or like. I think the threads on this site/forum are worth taking seriously. I feel they're genuine. There are a lot of varying experiences. Different surgeons etc. From my perspective that gives it credability.
  22. Thanks for the advice Bill, pat & homer. Pat this is a brilliant idea, the website, particularly the forum. Fair play to ya for doin it. Great source of reference. As it happens Bill i won't be able to afford a hair transplant for another year or possibly more.Just outta college. I have plenty of time to research the area. Im not gonna make a rash decision. Not in a big hurry either to take the next step, which is to get the ht. By the way, I saw Bono from U2 there on christmas eve. He was in Dublin City Centre in a bar havin a pint with what looked like some of his mates. Rumour has it that he had a hair transplant. You could never tell. I wonder where he had his done...?
  23. Thanks for the reply I hope everything went well with HT over in New York..... I looked at Dr Eipstein's website there a while ago. He sounds very impressive and predominantly gets rave reviews on this site for his work. Im concerned about the strip procedure though. It is a very delicate surgery/operation. I ve heard horror stories about how the backs of peoples heads were mutilated and i ve seen the pictures. From what i ve heard strip surgeries can potentially cause damage to nerve endings at the rear of the scalp not to mention scaring. Im just curious if you ve experienced any of these ambiguities from past sessions? Clearly though, your happy with the outcomes of Dr Eipsteins surgery. So i take it then as a strong recommendation from a fellow Irish Man. Happy New Year Badger
  24. Hey everyone, Im new to the site. Im livin in Dublin Ireland and am very curious about this DHI crowd. They recently set themselves up in Dublin. I had a consultations and it all sounds a little to good. Im really digging to find out if anyone in ireland has had a hair transplant procedure done in the Irish DHI branch and furthermore have a bad experience, or a good one. Or if they know anything about the surgeon who does the transplant there. I attended a consultation, apparantly i need 2000 follicular units transplanted to the front of the scalp: They claim that follicles in the donor region will not transected due to high magnification telescopes used. Pitting is apparantly well reduced. They claim absolutely none of the removed follicles which have been removed fron the donor area are damaged due to the precise instrumentation used, 10 percent will be dorment. Results will 100 percent natural. Achieving 60 percent of fullness of balding area. (Which would be great) No donor area scaring of aesthetic damage to the appearance of hair density in the donor region. I've noticed on the forum, nobody that has had DHI done ever show a picture of the Donor area after the hair has regrown, say 3 months later. This is something i need to see. When its shaved and extracted upon, like some photo's, i've seen it looks like a "scalpin". The density of this area im concerned with in particular. If anybody has an experience or photo's they wanna share, i would really appreciate it. Anything good or bad to say..... Your friend Badger
