There is a downside to these big sessions. You better believe it. Sometimes a conservative approach is in the best interest of the patient. Grafts need left intact, instead of broken down to market a clinic because they do the highest graft counts in one session.

Lets talk results. Just because every damn patient that goes to your clinic wants to have their 15 minutes of fame in the internet hair loss forum spotlight doesn't mean you have the best and most results. There are alot of excellent doctors turning out great results everyday that stay low profile and off the boards. It's all about marketing. Dominate the boards and keep the clinic busy and profit. Domination is the marketing tool. Naysayers are silenced, humiliated, and criticized. It's getting old.

They also happen to do the best results in one session. Forget numbers just look at results. Show me shapiro's best result and I'll show you 10 better from H&W.

  2. That's quite an articulate and well written piece of prose worthy of an MD himself.

To suggest that it in some way does not relate to H&W and is speaking of the broader HT community (a community that Pat himself acknowledges rarely delves into the sort of graft counts of H&W) is ridiculous.

I scoff at the idea of two sessions somehow being ok and even - *gasp* - better for the patient? Two years out of ones life spent hiding under a hat, looking, quite literally, like an ass.

Then you have the ridiculous clowns come on here proclaiming Shapiro as the saver of people's money. No, he's not ripping people off. I wonder though how much more two sessions as opposed to one would cost (when you factor in the discount pricing scheme of most clinics for larger sessions).

Bottom line is results speak louder than words. You guys can justify your positions all you like but at the end of the day, its H&W pulling people out of NW6-ville, and there isn't a single clinic in the world who's managed to do that as consistently or even on par even with their best cases.

  3. First, I'd like to say that H&W was fantastic. I know the people on this forum like to sing their praises, but it is completely deserved. My whole experience was top notch from moment one. Dr. Wong is very talented and the clinic is simply fantastic, a very professional atmosphere. Everyone present at the clinic made me feel comfortable, and better still, confident.

Despite considerable research, I still had doubts until meeting Dr. Wong and visiting the clinic.

I am now five days after the procedure and feel excellent about the decision. It is hard for me to imagine having chosen a different place or different doc.

The only glitch, if one can call it that, is that I swelled up in my forehead and face. Despite being warned, it was a bit uncomfortable for a couple of days. Luckily, the eyes didn't s

How long did the surgery last? Are you staying at Grandville island?

    Hi Darren,

Just head over to H&W in 12 months and get this over with in one go. PM me if you want to see my incisions at day 5.

Trust your own eyes in person. Don't rely on what is coming from these clinics. It is filtered information to say the least.

NO clinic is going to show their patient's results in the worst case scenario. The TRUE honest photos come from the patients that are not trying to shill for their clinic.

H&W are the most well documented clinic on the internet. There are numerous 3rd party photos available throughout this site and virtually every other hair transplant related forum on the internet.

Here is a link on their website of the personal blogs:

You will notice if you take the time, that it includes average patients - average laxity, average shaft thickness, etc.

As expected, I did not get much density. I can see all the transplanted hairs grown fully. I don't think I can expect any more growth in coming months.

Finasteride is working great. It stopped my hairloss completely.

I am planning for second round of HT may be in coming 2 or 3 months. How many grafts do you think that I will require to get a decent coverage?

Great video! I'm surprised at how good you look given the post-op photos. You are very lucky to have excellent donour hair. I'd say another 2000-2500 to get rid of the thinning when dry. Maybe 3000 depending on how it looks in the sun.

If you can, I'd go to a doctor overseas somewhere.

The density i got was 40/cm2 at the front about 1cm and 20/cm2 behind that not sure what she did about density on top im guessing she probably filled in the gaps with what was left over from the hairline, lookin at it now im dont think that 20/cm2 will be the density i want but can only wait and see i will be better off then i was i will post more photo`s soon im actually on the road to Mackay (north queensland) at the moment so its a bit hard all the scabs have come away already just waiting for the hairs to fall out how long should that take? i have been shampooing daily but not much has been coming out

    take care

Most people lose most of their hairs at the 2 week mark, depending on how hard you rub in your showers. I recommend that you don't necessarily rub them.

What I do (which works well) is lather up the area with 1 finger, let it soak in for 5 minutes, and then glide the finger in the direction of hair growth a few times. That got most of the excess skin buildup (which looks like bad dandruff) off in a couple of days.

the whole procedure cost about $14500AU im just hoping that i get the density i want, most of the scabs are gone now off the recipient area its still a lil pinkish i think i might have lost a few grafts too, but anyhow theres still plenty up there the hairs are still in there but i think they are already starting to come out some came with the scabs, the donor area is still a lil tender but i can sleep on it

    Browny217

You didn't lose any grafts unless you actually saw some blood. The little hairs always shed and some of them will have a black bulb on them, or white excess skin.

Anyway I've sent you a PM.

  9. Don't go to bosley. Also, location should not be a deciding factor when choosing your HT doctor. You have to remember that this is a result you will have with you for life, and certainly the discomfort of flying to another state/country for a few hours the day before your procedure is relatively minor when you weight up the potential consequences of not doing so.

How big of a red spot are we talking about?? What about a pimple sized one?

If you're looking for thin coverage, then 2800 grafts will be plenty. If you're looking for hairline and density like Bobman, you'll need atleast 4000-4500 grafts. As for shockloss, yeah you will suffer shockloss (regardless you do 2800 or 4500), but it will grow back. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Shockloss is pretty irrelevant if you plant in the front only - which is the only thing you can really feasibly do with 2800 grafts. You can effectively write off the hair you have in the front because it provides little cosmetic value, and even if you lose it all, 4000+ grafts would produce a superior result.

I consulted with 3 coalition doctors. Each thought 2 HTs would be the appropriate approach with total number of grafts in the vicinity you mentioned. 2 of the 3 doctors specifically mentioned being cautious with the crown area and to do that area second.

I'm curious to know more. What is the derivative of your recommendation? Is having 4500 done in one sitting common these days?

Yes, very common. H&W, Feller and/or Armani are clinics I've seen produce 4000+ on a regular basis. If however, you want numbers, H&W are the way to go. They can do 7000+ grafts in a session if your donour permits it.

I personally wouldn't want to do the whole thing twice. There is no medical reasoning behind the several sessions approach, merely the fact that the clinic doesn't have the facilities to cope with such large procedures.

Hey, I need to let you know that I had transplant done at Bosley. Paid top dollar and reult was unvelievable. People in this industry were appalled to see the result. I wasted my money. I do not want to pay my money for highly paid commercials that go every week all across nation.

I have seen that Bosley still charges a lot compared to others. People go by brand name. But others can manage the same thing for half price, say between $3 to $5 a graft. I guess anyone who charges beyond $5 then you are basically paying them to run thir big offices nationawide and the commercials people watch on main national channels. And anyone trying to pay less than $3 then they have to worry about quality.

What I am surprised is that Dr. Chang has been around for more than 10 years right in the place where HT happen the most, in Los Angeles but no one knows about it.

If you've already had one bad HT with bosley, why take the risk? You only have a limited amount of donour hair, why would you risk having sub-par results to save a couple of bucks and an airfair?? Why not go with a doctor with a proven track record? That's the closest thing to a guarantee that you have, because no one will give you one in writing.

    thx,

I think at your age it doesn't really matter unless:

    1. Your hairloss is very fast and very aggressive.

    2. There's a chance your donour will thin out if left untreated.

The above can be "guessed"/approximated based on family history, although this is rarely completely accurate. You should probably raise your concerns during the consultation. In person consultations are always the best, as photos are very deceiving.

If you're a NW5 you should be pushing for 4500+ if you can get it. That's with good donour hair aswell. If your donour isn't as good as biscuits then you'll need more grafts.

  16. Trojan

You need at least 4000 grafts. There's no conservative argument when it comes to a NW5 case. Conservation comes in when planning where to place the hairline (how high, how receeded and how dense). What you don't want to do is get caught by a doctor whose clinic can only do 2000 graft cases and as such they'll recommend you get this number, knowing full well that you'll need a second surgery with them in a years time.

If you get the 4000, you won't need to leave the crown. Generally, people of your nationality tend to have quite thick shafts and their hair is often of fairly high quality - but you should consult with a doctor in person if you can to confirm this.

I recommend you don't factor in travel when choosing your HT surgeon. The difference could mean multiple procedures, a less than perfect hairline, subpar density, etc. Choose something that you feel most *safe* with, go for consistency, naturalness, and coverage!

Also you should get on finasteride if you do go forward with the HT.

Do you mean like the dark blood rings in this picture:

The red dots close up quite quickly. If you want to shave to a number one then do that without getting a HT! No surgery is scarless and it will depend on how many FU's were taken out, and your skin colour as to how detectable the procedure will turn out.

  19. I was also wondering if it's safe to apply dermatch and keep it on your scalp for couple of days before washing it off. I

I would definitely wash it off at the end of the day, without a doubt. There have been some reports I've heard of poor growth from guys who would leave it on in the back for many days. This was heresay and the supposed case was a case of Dr. Hassons. It was mentioned on another site and I haven't confirmed it with the clinic but I think, if you can, just don't risk it man.

    Cheers.
