  1. This is a 40 year patient who was class five on the norwood scale, as you can see from the before pictures. We did a total of 3000 grafts which were mostly done in the front and midscalp area, and some in the crown area. His hair characteristics was thick and wavy with gray to black color. Thanks for the comment bill but there is no illusion of fullness here and as you can see I didnot photo shop. In addition I pulled the hair back to show his true frontal hairline.

  5. Well, funny you noticed. The patient lost alot of weight because of personal issues, but we should focus on his hairline and temple points.
  6. Here is a class 2 on the Norwood scale. We did 2000 grafts for the frontal hairline and temple points.

  9. In our practice, When we are locating the appropiate hair line which is customized individually for each patient, we take the following factors into consideration such as: patients age, amount of donor availability, the shape of the patients face, size of the bald area and etc....once it is set, we initially draw a straight line to design the hairline location then draw a jagged shape for guideline to create the sites. Some physicians just draw the straight line for the location then they create irregular sites for placing the grafts during the procedure. In either case, the goal is to create an outcome which is aesthetically natural.
  10. Hello Sunny, I have a few clients from India who pull their hair back into a pony tail and have gotten traction hair loss. The pattern you explained where your hairloss was in the front, sides and the back on your neckline fits description of traction hairloss. Do you pull your hair back into a ponytail?
  11. Both male facial hair and male pattern baldness are genetically based, suggesting that they contributed to fitness. The multiple fitness model provides an evolutionary interpretation of the social perception of male pattern baldness and beardedness in terms of the multidimensional meaning of physical maturational stages. Male facial beardedness is associated with the sexual maturation stage and is hypothesized to signal aggressive dominance. Male pattern baldness, by contrast, is associated with the next stage of physical maturation, termed senescence. Pattern baldness may signal social maturity, a non-threatening form of dominance associated with wisdom and nurturance. There was a study done a few years ago and the results were Consistent with the model, a decrease in the amount of cranial hair was associated with increased perceptions of social maturity, appeasement, and age, and decreased perceptions of attractiveness and aggressiveness and decreased strength. patients with facial hair were perceived as more aggressive , less appeasing, less attractive, older, and lower on social maturity than clean shaven faces. Now these results only confirms the perception of men through their hair. Through history of human being mens status was determined by his strength and aggressiveness. Only relatively recently was the money added to the social status. Therefore, throughout history mens hair has contributed to his image in his society, and less hair meant maturity(older) therefore less strength and less social status. Eventhough, these issues are not talked about socially but the effect of their many thousands of years of historical impact is still apparent in our sociaty. So today we may call hair loss or even talking about hair loss a tabu; without being aware of its historical significance.
  12. Hello, This site has an animation that gives an estimate for the number of grafts needed for an area based on the desired density. Each doctor differs in the technique they use, and also on the number of one, two or three hair units they use. The smaller the units the more incisions a doctor can make. Its a good idea to ask the doctor to give you a break down of the number of 1,2, or 3 hair units so you are able to compare them based on the total number of hair they are planning to transplant.
  13. Dr Feller, You have my permission to add my name and I will be more than glad to speak to you.
  14. I am glad Dr. Feller took the initiative to bring about the issue of effeciency of LLL. I have used them in the past and I too donot see enough evidence to back up the use of LLLT. However, I have clients who come into my office and demand to use them. I had a client whom I refused to treat whoreturned after a year to showme before and after pictures to prove that they do work. However, the client was given a solution to use in conjunction with laser and it did contain monoxidil . I am very reluctant about LLLT results and I donot recommend them either.
  15. Do we get a price if we guess the mystery man and mystery women? Humm could it be James bond(holding his famous martini) and one of his beautiful girl friends.
  16. Hi Ready and 40, With my estimate of 3000 grafts I did take into account building a nice hair line using about 400 ones and some twos. The hair line wouldnot be necessarily low like when you were younger, I always take into account the patients age and goals. I usually take about one hour discussing the future hair loss and designing the hairline. If you donot want to build a new hairline, then ofcoarse the number of grafts will be less.
  17. Hello ready and 40, I donot shave all of my patients and give the option of shaving when I think it is absolutely beneficial to the client. We can get just as good a result with or without shaving the patient because I do take the time and use very strong magnifiers when making the reciepient sites to make sure that the angles are done correctly and there is minimal or zero damage to the native hair. From looking at your pictures, I recommend 3000 follicular units to fill in the frontal to the mid front area and make a nice hair line and temples. However usually my final count is when I examin the donor and the head from upclose.
