  1. Omy, I had the forehead lift both to remove pluggy grafts AND raise the hairline. It sounds similar to a linear excision. I would say the laser surgery improved the scar at least 50%, and I may go for another session.
  2. Steve21, I don't yet have a digital camera. Actually, most of the bad grafts were removed with the forehead lift, so only a few stray ones remain. MrT, I decided on FUE because there are only a few grafts that won't be hidden by Shapiro's excellent work that I had in Dec. East Coast, A forehead lift is a surgical procedure, usually part of a facelift, that can also be used in corrective surgery to remove aesthetically unpleasing hairline grafts.
  3. Yes, it's true! I had about 150 grafts from MHR in 1995. At this time, the grafts were about $20 each. I threw about 75 down the drain the night of the transplant. Now add $3000 for a forehead lift, $1000 for laser surgery, and I'm guessing about $5-10 for each one I'll have removed by FUE later this year or next. That means about $100 for each of the grafts I had left the first night after the surgery. Of course, all of the comments from people about the pluggy looking grafts were free.

  5. If I see that infomercial with the blond and the fat, dumpy "prospective patient" again I'm going to get sick. I must need glasses, because the hairlines they show, including Wade's, look horrible to my bad eyes. Isn't there a law against making false statements such as "technologically advanced" and "aesthetically perfect"?

  7. ttaco, Your new hairline looks awesome. Congratulations! By the way, which hack did your original transplant?
  8. This is an example of an "average" hair transplant(i.e., standard of care in 2003), which unfortunately, looks much worse than being bald. Think about this the next time you see the fat, dumpy guy on that hair mill infomercial. Bernie's hair would actually look even worse if he didn't have curly hair.
  9. PAI's multi-unit hairs= MHR's follicular unit families= Bosley's varigrafts= PLUGS!
  10. Bernie has the standard of care HT in 2003, which is hideous looking.
  11. I saw the infomercial too, and agree that Wade Boggs' HT looks terrible. I hope this isn't MHR's best work. Also, I don't believe Leavitt ever had significant hair loss, as was implied. Some blurry pictures of a man with wet hair were showed next to Leavitt, and it was implied that he previously had a lot of hair loss, but had a very successful HT with MHR. I don't believe he ever had more than a few grafts.
  12. Microprose, I think you should listen to Arfy. I hate to be blunt, but if you need a hair transplant in your early 20's, you are VERY LIKELY to have extensive hair loss later in life, most likely NW6-7. You won't have enough donor hair to cover all of your bald areas, and will look like an ABSOLUTE FREAK with squared temples. Trust me, you will regret it. I am over 40 now, and think I look much better with a slight recession.I have plenty of donor hair, but you couldn't pay me enough to get my temples squared. Please don't disregard my post. I have read extensively on hair restoration. Don't be in denial, because you may do something that you will regret in ten years. Please, wake up and consult with other HT doctors before you make a big mistake.
  13. Anyone that is losing hair at the age of 22 has a very good chance of becoming completely bald. If you get a density of 50-80 FU's per cm2, you may only have enough grafts to cover about 100-120 cm2, or about half of the baldness of a NW6-7. What you think and what women think is attractive changes as you get older. I'm speaking from experience. I spent over $10,000 raising my hairline from a bad transplant, and I like it much better now. You will look much better at the age of 60 if you have some recession. Trust me, you will look like an absolute freak if you have a thick, frontal, squared hairline with a bald crown. That has been one of the problems with the FM flap years later. There are a lot of very bright people with a lot of experience on this forum. Do yourself a favorite and listen to them, or you may be headed for a world of hurt.
  14. Steven, I also had Leavitt plugs on the frontal hairline back in 1995.They put in about 120 plugs, but I yanked almost half of them out myself the night of the surgery and let them run down the drain after I looked in the mirror and saw mostly grafts of between 3-6 hairs right on my hairline. If I remember right, I think they were about $20 each. Shapiro recently did my hairline and it's looking great, but the plugs are too low to be totally concealed. I hope that FUE is the answer.
  15. teddw2ds, What happened to you sounds very unethical to me. I actually know someone who flew to California (Hermosa Beach) for a consult with a very well-known laser surgeon for cosmetic surgery. He booked the surgery and flew back, but about 5 minutes before the surgery(after he had been there for 2 hours), another doctor came in and told him HE would be doing the surgery. The guy was scared and went through with the surery, but regretted it later. It was VERY unethical, if not illegal, for the group to do this to you. I would file a complaint with the Florida medical board. But you were lucky. I've met Dr. Rose, and he's a great guy with a stellar reputation.
  16. Then just come right out and say that your clinic uses microscopic dissection and all follicular units. I don't care what Betty has taught in the past. The pictures on the website look like micrografts and look very pluggy. If they used all follicular units, they would mention it on the website. If their results are that great, show us.
  17. I read the reply from the Tulsa Hair Transplant center and it seemed sincere. But I looked at the web site and was not very impressed. Nowhere was the word "follicular unit" mentioned, which likely means that they aren't used. If the guy on the left in the photo section is the groups' best work,I feel sorry for them. The guy's hairline looks very pluggy. Hey, I'm sure they're nice people, but their photos are not very impressive.
  18. You can't tell the results of a hair transplant after 4 weeks. Why don't you have the clinic post some "finished patients"? What kind of technology are you using? Do you even use follicular units? Experience is not necessarily commensurate with the ability to do an excellent hair transplant. There are some very experienced people who do shoddy work. Personally, the Victim's hair transplant looks terrible regardless of thr number of grafts he had. Large grafts were obviously used, and the shape of the hairline is unnatural. I have nothing personal against the Tulsa clinic, but the photo the Victim posted looks hideous. It looks like something from 1980.
  19. It looks more like about 700-800 micrografts. You're lucky most of them didn't grow. Don't look back. If you find a good doctor and still have adequate donar hair, you'll be fine.
  20. In theory, FUE may be a superior procedure to the strip technique. I would caution that longer follow-up is needed to ascertain this. At this time, only a handful of elite surgeons are attempting this procedure. I question whether ever a moderately talented HT surgeon could get excellent results using FUE. Sooner or later we are going to hear stories about botched FUE procedures. Also, remember that only the APPEARANCE of scarring is less with FUE than with strip excision. There is MUCH MORE scar tissue formed in total volume with FUE than with strip excision. Let's wait and see if this causes any long term problems before jumping the gun and declaring FUE to be the superior procedure.
  21. Either go for very thin coverage in the front using FU's or go completely bald. Unfortunately, you don't have a tremendous amount of donar hair. If you go the bald route, I would see a laser surgeon after the hair removal to improve the scars. Three of the top laser experts in laser scar reduction are Richard Fitzpatrick and Mitchel Goldman in San Diego and Tina Alster in Washington, D.C. The scars can often be improved 50-80%
  22. Castrated males will not develop MPB if castrated before puberty. There is also evidence that they will never develop prostate cancer. I don't think it's worth it, though.
  23. I thought the laser comb sounded like a scam at first too. But I recently found out that even Shapiro may test it out on patients. I also disagree that Martin Unger is dishonest. In my heart of hearts, though, I agree with Arfy, and don't think the laser comb works.
  24. I had a procedure at the Shapiro Medical Group one month ago and I had a good experience similar to that of vocor1. I recommend staying at Hotel Sofitel, a luxury 4 star hotel 5 minutes from the clinic. Call the hotel and ask for the price the internet discount services charge, which is about $100-$120 a night. They have a shuttle and two excellent restaurants.
  25. Mr. Hair, Actually I also do some plucking of the remaining grafts right on the hairline. I had work done by Shapiro a month ago, and I expect that it will look very good. If the remaining MHR plugs are still visible, I'll have them removed. Dodgedabullet
